Word of the day is ‘huff-snuff’ (16th century): a hectoring bully or braggart.

Cuddy ducks at dawn. A blog at jonathanpomroy.wordpress.com

An amazing record. Hundreds of Turnstone winter in Cornwall. Presumably some of the Cornish birds make the same vast journey. Thanks for sharing.

What a joy to see the first Sand Martin of the year over the Sailing Pool #uptonwarren this morning found by @andypitt.bsky.social Feeding well. The earliest date ever for the reserve (previous early date was the 25/2/2021). #worcsbirds

Let us hope it is contained. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

I know it's small in the whole scheme of things, but the bloodbath at NPS in Hawaii is almost certainly going to lead directly to the extinctions of no fewer than 4 native Hawaiian songbirds in the next 4-5 years.

This made me smile today, an escape from the doom. The 1984 Scilly autumn with old friends and memories, some sadly no longer with us. I dipped that Eyebrowed, but found the Hermit Thrush a week later. Enjoy. www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/...

Great to see this important study now out in #BirdStudy. Here’s the link to the paper: doi.org/10.1080/0006... @btobirds.bsky.social #ornithology #ukbirding

Stunning!!

I regularly submit using the ProjectSplatter app, do you? More info here: www.theroadlab.co.uk/get-involved #Citizenscience

Given how much critical data for climate science and beyond is held by NOAA, NASA etc, are there any efforts to move it to different servers before it gets deleted or paywalled?

The agency that tells you if there’s a hurricane coming btw

35 Woodcock on this ‘game cart’. That really P’sses me off.

Worth a Follow. Some great advice on Thermals and a great blog too!

Could be some interesting cold weather movement if this modelling proves to be accurate. The #TexSpex should feel right at home.

“Like all birds who live in high mountain areas, the effects of global warming brought on by anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions, especially those linked to the burning of fossil fuels, has become the primary threat to their existence.” www.torres.es/en/blog/wine...

So, the breeding season is here (for some species)! The first Woodlarks are warming up their vocal chords, Goshawks are practicing their display stoops, Lesser Spotted Woodpeckers are limbering up their drumming muscles. And birders should get out there looking and listening!
