Peatlands occupy just 3% of all land but contain more carbon than all of the world’s forests. Often overlooked: typically flat, wet, often inaccessible, not always picturesque & all the carbon they hold is hiding below the surface. 80% of the UK bogs are degraded by draining, overgrazing, burning.

Are the Wyver Stonechats wandering between two #DerbyshireWildlifeTrust reserves this winter? #MoorfarmNR #WyverlaneNR @derbyswildlife.bsky.social let’s hope so. Can some simple wet flush creation on the new reserve create more habitat for other birds & increase biodiversity?

CommonFarmNR - 2 stonechat, a few skylark, mipits, kestrel, buzzard. @richardttaylor.bsky.social (stonechat in the “yellow” field. Suspect there were two pairs but couldn’t confirm more than one pair). No waders.

Organisations (inc. ecology/science) still active on X have a social responsibility to withdraw. 'Outreach' and 'audience' are no excuse. There's alternatives. X is based on advertising/engagement for active users. If you're still an active user, you're fuelling this, plain & simple. Be responsible.
