Shout out to the vultures for cleaning up the “gift” that the resident coyote pack left in the driveway this morning.

A good sign you're in a tech bubble is when non-tech people are raving about technologies. In a normal environment they shouldn't care how or why the product works, only that it works and that it's good. My dad shouldn't be calling me to talk about MongoDB or Typescript, it's just internal cogs 1/3

Every time I interact with Go(lang) I end up with another paper cut from it

I yearn to be one of those people that can avoid becoming important at their workplace. But noooo I have to try to be helpful

Context is for weenies

I love when past me is watching out for future me.

I like the idea of text editors as IDEs but the experience of using neovim at work is really annoying. I get things setup and they work alright for a while and then an update breaks the setup. I just don't have the time to go and investigate when a hotkey suddenly doesn't do anything now.

As long as you claim to have made some change to AI generated works you get a copyright. Do I have that right? Cause how would anyone really know if you shifted around a few pixels or changed a color? Does AI copyright really come down to “trust me bro, I made some sick changes”?

How many 20 minute deploys does it take to justify shaving the LocalStack setup yak for this one final piece of the deployment.

If abstraction is a scary concept to you, maybe software engineering is not the field for you. Cause I got bad news, it's abstractions all the way down.

Google has a long history of using different labels and borders depending on where you access their maps from. They want the largest number of possible users, they don’t care to make statements about which lines or names are right. You really expected them to take a stand on the Gulf of Mexico?

I didn’t think butt hurt tech bros would be the reason the US finally commits to Cold War 2: Electric Boogaloo: The Chinaing. And I really don’t think we can afford to just do another defense spending race this time around.

I really want to start watching YouTube again but between a decade+ worth of subscriptions and a diverse set of interests it’s kinda hard to find the videos I want to watch. All I want is to make subscription groups and I doubt YT will ever add that.

There’s gotta be a german word for the feeling of blocking someone, not because they said anything offensive but just because they were annoyingly stupid. Little bit of pettiness and a little bit of a dopamine hit.

My new year's resolution for work is to start appealing to authority instead of spending 15-30 minutes writing a well thought out and considered response. So over getting rebuttals in 5 minutes that just keep hitting on the same points without addressing anything I said.

I can’t tell if people on tiktok selling the combo strain and plug for your kitchen sink really didn’t know these existed or are just doing a bit for the commercial

You ever talking with someone and wish you could just `-vvv` them

Oh man I must be getting close to the end of this PR. *62 files unviewed* 🤦

I can’t decide if a dark comedy about some frat bro running for president specifically to avoid being convicted of a crime would do well right now or if it would be too much…

Every Frame’s a Painting has been back for months and I had no idea 🫠

Got halfway through this work before I realized I was just manually doing what should be a Dockerfile. Wish my brain worked faster in the cold

Docker desktop breaks in the weirdest ways

Happy that I've built the kind of career where I can forget that jQuery was a thing for a solid 5 years or so. My heart goes out to those of us that are forced to use it. IDK what to say to anyone that's using it by choice. Live mas?

My pet peeve with #2 is when people will say "kill" in the video but then change the subtitles to say "unalive". What is the point?? You've now turned something that should improve accessibility into a kind of joke that accomplishes nothing.

I'm not a raw food person to begin with but there's something about sushi restaurants that are 8+ hours away from the nearest coast that just doesn't sit well with me

The constantly overlooked part of gen ai “use cases” is where the actual data is gonna come from. “Ask your fridge how much milk is left” great but how would it know??? The language machine can make up a sentence but it has no milk level monitoring

What happened to all those community made strategy guides that were uploaded to sites as plain text files in the early 2000s? I miss gratuitous ascii art, a lack of editing, and the uncertainty if it’s my fault or the guide’s fault that it’s not working at all.

I’m really hoping EPIC the Musical will be the first broadway musical I see. Is it anything more than songs right now? No, but I can be patient

I’ll never understand why the answer to “native development hard” was “let’s just make everything a web page but pretend it’s native” instead of “let’s make a system that uses html and css to make a native application”

I’m not one to talk shit with someone in the room…. So now that it’s gone I just wanna say 2024 can suck an egg

Waymo is peak American innovation. With way less money they could have built a reliable public transport network, but instead someone was like "what if we could find a way for empty vehicles to contribute to traffic too? There's no reason we can't have more cars on the road than there are drivers"

I can’t wait for Pokemon Pocket to get trading

Just after the election I saw some social media posts from a left wing third party that had been focusing on local elections (and had some success afai remember). Anyone know who I’m thinking of?? Cannot pull a name out of my brain

Does homebrew just not support multiple user accounts using it or did I just not do it correctly? Had to use my personal laptop for work for like a week and now I've got a bunch of lock files to change the ownership of....

Am I the only one thinking that making a second season of Squid Games is kind of inherently giving up the message of the first season? “Look how capitalism degrades these people and how willing they are to be degraded” to “you’ll pay me how much to show poor people fighting for scraps again??”

My programming hot take is that all the “justification” that we give for why we have to sell subscriptions over one time purchases are just excuses given to engineers by their managers so they get on board with price gouging. No way it costs hundreds of dollars per customer per year to patch Word.

Welcome to the taint of 2024
