Man greeted by Otter Pup in the water

When your lack of previous sheepdog experience is cruelly exposed on your first day at work.

Ernest Frederick Heywood landed in Normandy with the 12th (Yorkshire) Parachute Bn at 00:50 on D-Day. He was wounded in battle and brought back to Southampton where he died in hospital on 14 June 1944, eight days after D-Day. He was laid to rest in Hollybrook Cemetery.

Extremely brave, to jump into enemy territory. R.I.P. (#OTD in 1945, SOE agents Violette SzabĂł, Cecily Lefort, Denise Bloch were killed by firing squad in concentration camp RavensbrĂźck. SOE agent Lilian Rolfe was gassed. #WW2 #HISTORY)

The Ravilious Rivers and Ponds Greetings Card Collection features River Thames at Hammersmith, Cuckmere Haven, and Newt Pond. These three watercolours bring to life three very different aquatic environments. #ericravilious www.rathergoodart.co.uk/product/the-...

Here's the same bear from my last post enjoying some fresh salmon eggs. (Also, if anyone has insight on how to make video look better on BlueSky, I'm open to suggestion!). #wildlife

Over two million American soldiers passed through Southampton during WW2 to help liberate Europe from the evil tyranny of fascism. Paul Shimer, seen here with the mayor, was the ‘Millionth Yank’ to head off to war from the port. Sadly, he would be killed in action in April 1945.

Wonderful gun salute at the inauguration. Brings a tear to your eyes.

Allow me to distract you all with a Daily red panda

Furlongs, Eric Ravilious, 1935. It was painted at fellow artist Peggy Angus’s cottage near Firle looking towards the South Downs, in East #Sussex. The original artwork is in a private collection. #Ravilious

Perspective "I tried to see things your way. You're still an idiot." Owls tilt their head to judge the position and distance of things around them. An owl’s eyes are fixed in position, so they can’t move their eyes like we can. To look to the side and….. cont.

Also, for those who brought it up, Barred Owls and Barn Owls are two different species. medium.com/environmenta...

Above Bar Street and the Bargate.

Lots of lovely pinkness this morning.

On this day in 1965, Frederick Fleet sadly took his own life at 8 Norman Road, Southampton. As lookout on Titanic, Fleet first saw the iceberg on that fateful night. He rang the bell, phoned the bridge, and told them: “Iceberg, right ahead.” He was buried in Holybrook Cemetery.

@russjerichoart.bsky.social You made the Oilers Post game show. Famous 😂

This morning's weather.

I think I would be lying down crying and begging people not to touch me whilst screaming for gas and air. LVDH? Nah. He just pops it back in. Again.
