There's an asymmetry here, where achieving left-wing policy goals requires competence and coordination, but the overall conservative project of undermining faith in government can be accomplished by 1000 evil lazy guys working at cross-purposes.

Yes, and I think since people see so little authenticity in what does reach us (does The Meg count since it was Tencent co-production with a famous mainland co-star?), they're genuinely impressed and surprised to see funny and human things on Chinese social media

I think it's in big part due to China not exporting very much popular culture to the US, certainly a disproportionately low amount relative to other East Asian countries

I see it as a sign that they've reached terminal OKR-driven product development. Some team was mandated to try to make a single number go up, with no other instructions. Everything besides the attempt to make the number go up is an externality, there is no "intent".

Also, very close to two nice playgrounds and is likely one of the densest areas for kid's activities in the city, so a playroom would arguably be a worse use of space there than in many other buildings.
