It's great to see this out! We discuss how dimensionality transformation unfolds in the brain to aid episodic memory formation and reconstruction, with a particular focus on neuroanatomy and oscillatory dynamics 🧠

Excited to share our preprint "Fast-timescale hippocampal processes bridge between slowly unfurling neocortical states during memory search" 🧠✨ We leverage iEEG to elucidate the fast neural mechanisms by which long multimodal narratives are unfurled in continuous memory-search tinyurl.com/wjkr3dvf

📢 New preprint from the lab: We are very excited to report the discovery of an oscillation in the Central Thalamus using rare direct recordings of human thalamic electrophysiology. The novel oscillation is tightly coupled to specific, natural states of consciousness.🧵

After years of work designing and running this study with a multi-University team, we have our first preprint 🎉🎉 showing how a memorization technique builds neural representations through conjunctive representations! See thread and preprint link ⬇️

Now out in @cp-trendsneuro.bsky.social : We discuss how the contents of visual perception, imagery, and prediction can be decoded from rhythmic brain activity and argue that such rhythmic representations offer new insights into neural information propagation. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Our review on the theoretical status of oscillations and field potentials is out! What are their effects, and what can electrophysiology signals reveal about how the brain works? w/ @dlevenstein.bsky.social @prokraustinator.bsky.social Bradley Voytek @rdgao.bsky.social www.cell.com/trends/cogni...

Our review out in TiCS spearheaded by Mathilde Bonnefond on the latest ideas on the functional role of alpha oscillations and distractor inhibition - e.g. we highlight that alpha increases might reflect perceptual target load rather than distractor anticipation authors.elsevier.com/a/1kFXN_V1r-...

New paper out! Memory for object features is warped according to their role in a category, w/ features shared across category-mates misremembered as more similar. We explored the phenomenon in our NN model of the hipp. w/ @annaschapiro.bsky.social & @codydong.bsky.social doi.org/10.1162/opmi...

My 1st message: “hello world” My 2nd message: JOB ALERT- please share❗ We are looking for 1 PhD candidate If you are interested in #sleep and #memory reprocesing in aging, please get in touch!

"Large language models surpass human experts in predicting neuroscience results" w @ken-lxl.bsky.social and braingpt.org. LLMs integrate a noisy yet interrelated scientific literature to forecast outcomes. nature.com/articles/s41... 1/8

I have not seen a starter pack for the study of brain rhythms. So, here's a start. go.bsky.app/A6zgHeE

Many (many) times, when I attend a talk or review a manuscript involving a memory recognition task, this paper comes to mind. If you are designing a recognition memory task, I highly recommend giving it a read: link.springer.com/article/10.3...

Interesting hypothesis about gamma oscillations: elifesciences.org/articles/100...

I think I've added everyone who has requested it so far and there is still some space so reply if you want to be added (and you do episodic memory research, loosely defined). I'll just add until it fills up!

Happy to share our review on OFC/vmPFC representations in Trends in Neurosciences, written with @nirmoneta.bsky.social and Shany Grossman www.cell.com/trends/neuro... Very short thread below to summarize our review #neuroscience #neuroskyence #compneurosky #PsychSciSky

New paper in NatHumBeh investigating neural signatures of head direction in humans using intracranial and scalp EEG. Great collaborative effort led by @benjamingriffiths.bsky.social www.nature.com/articles/s41... view-only link rdcu.be/dG35f non-paywalled biorxiv www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

Happy publication day to us, but most importantly Bardur Joensen! An Enduring Role for Hippocampal Pattern Completion in Addition to an Emergent Nonhippocampal Contribution to Holistic Episodic Retrieval after a 24 h Delay www.jneurosci.org/content/44/1... #neuroskyence #psychscisky #cognition

Super excited to share the very first preprint from my PhD: Pre-stimulus alpha oscillations encode stimulus-specific visual predictions. [1/8] #neuroskyence #PsychSciSky #compneurosky biorxiv.org/cgi/content/...

New paper alert, led by Amir Tal and me, along with Ken Paller, Bruce Caughran, and Lila Davachi. We show that reactivating a memory unconsciously affects it differently than consciously retrieving it! Copying Amir's thread from the other site below.

"The inevitability and superfluousness of cell types in spatial cognition" w Ken Luo @robmok.bsky.social Whether place, border, head direction, Jennifer Aniston, or whatever cells, are we fooling ourselves? Are these intuitive findings scientific discoveries? 1/6 www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

Some fighting words in the abstract :-) "Now that large-scale simulations are feasible, the complexity of the brain should be respected and intuitive notions of cell type, which can be misleading and arise in any complex network, should be relegated to history." #neuroscience

New preprint! We show that category structure rapidly warps memory for individual object features according to their roles in the category. Features shared across exemplars pull together while unique features stay apart. With @annaschapiro.bsky.social and Cody Dong. doi.org/10.31234/osf...

Oscillations in an Artificial Neural Network Convert Competing Inputs into a Temporal Code https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2023.11.27.568876v1

There was some discussion (on t'other place) about interactions (moderations) being hard to detect, which puzzled me. So I did some Rmd simulations, which I think suggest this may be an over-generalised concern. Have a look, and please correct me where wrong. www.mrc-cbu.cam.ac.uk/personal/rik...

Two new preprint commentaries on the effectiveness of 40Hz sensory stimulation in attenuating pathologies relating to Alzheimer's. The plot thickens... www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1... and www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

An updated version of GLM-Spectrum - now shorter and better thanks to three reviewers! very grateful for their input. In addition to clean-ups & improvements, a notable new addition is spectra of effect sizes in multivariate models. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1... #neuroscience #neuroimaging
