As a general rule, I think maybe we should stop naming companies after things from Lord of the Rings.

This has been a long time coming - but I'm glad to report that the vast majority of WCAG's Reflow Understanding document has been rewritten. Lots of work and discussions in our attempt to make what Reflow actually requires more... well... understandable. www.w3.org/WAI/WCAG22/U...

You can't ride zebras. Why? Because they're mean, stripey fucks. You can't ride tigers. Why? Again, mean stripey fucks. You can't ride bees. Why? You guessed it, mean stripey fucks.

A message to accessibility practitioners trying to distance themselves from DEI: - that is not going to protect accessibility from this regime - DEI and accessibility have always been linked, systemically accessibility must be intersectional to be truly effective.

Thanks for the invite! Here's mine. www.aleksandrhovhannisyan.com/blog/blog-qu...

What linters are we using for accessibility these days?

This isn't that complicated but to be clear 1. Signal is a very good app based on secure encryption technology. 2. Putting sensitive national security information on your regular phone creates vast new security risks unrelated to whether signal is a good app or not

The Practical Limitations of End-to-End Encryption Internet discussions about end-to-end encryption are plagued by misunderstandings, misinformation, and some people totally missing the point. Of course, people being wrong on the Internet isn't exactly news. XKCD: Duty Calls "What do you want me…

The Signal leak is a prime moment for Democrats to get caught trying. Call for resignations or impeachment hearings or both. Be omnipresent in the media demanding and explaining accountability measures. Don’t let this fade away. Treat this the way the GOP treated Hillary’s emails. Make it a thing.

being an indie bookseller in the helltimes has felt both very stable and very stabilizing, and part of me wishes everyone could be on my side of the counter for a little while, because I think it would help some of you be a little less cynical and doomy right now. so here is my VERY anecdotal data:

Recently, @ericwbailey.website tagged me into the #BlogQuestionsChallenge to answer ten questions about how and why I blog. I answered, and in return, I'm tagging @aleksandrhovhannisyan.com, @ashleemboyer.com, and Evan Sheehan to answer as well (if y’all would like)!

Something I've learned is that people like to say accessibility is hard, but for all of the wrong reasons. Does it take time, thoughtful consideration, learning? Yes. But most often what they mean by hard, is that they have made previous technical and design decisions that exacerbate it.

Hey, you. Yeah, you. You know that quirky section you’ve got on your site that has its own fun background color? Today’s a great day to validate your focus outlines’ color contrast in that section.

This book is really good, and its new design looks phenomenal. Let’s get this book into a few more hands. I’ll send the first first five (U.S.) folks who ask a copy. #YDATUbook #1u #unions

the popover attribute is just one ingredient in making accessible popups. It does a lot, but not everything you might need. that's on purpose. Want to know more? Here you go: www.scottohara.me/blog/2025/03...

I’m convinced American exceptionalism is a big part of what made us vulnerable to Trump. We’re so used to thinking of ourselves as the Special Freedom Country that a lot of people find it inconceivable we could rapidly collapse into shabby despotism even as they watch it happen.

Today is the 35th anniversary of the Capitol Crawl, in which disabled activists discarded their mobility aids at the foot of the Capitol steps to climb them in support of passage of the Americans with Disabilities Ac. Jennifer Keelan-Chaffins, 8, told reporters "I'll take all night if I have to!"

The ‘Odyssey’ film adaptation I’d *really* like to see is a Muppets version.

Thinking a lot of Chesterton’s fence these days, for no reason in particular…

why do Duolingo bot accounts exist…?

"Company reorganization" - i.e., I was impacted by layoffs this week. (Not a federal employee, though.) So I'm back on the market, looking for #UX or #accessibility fulltime roles, remote/WFH ideal. Have been working fulltime in accessibility since 2016.

There are far more people who don't use Bluesky, Twitter, text-based social media than do. It might seem like everyone should understand what's happening with current events, what's at stake but that's not reality. Also there is a sizable overlap of not taking in mainstream news media as well.

Really hoping at some point that people realize that a man who gets called “very smart” isn’t necessarily moral, and maybe isn’t even smart.

Also if you know a woman in STEM affected by the current administration, please file an issue (github.com/MelSumner/wo...) or encourage them to do so! Thank you for sharing this project.

🦊 Friday was my last day working at 18F. It was a team of extraordinary people, but a few things happened that made me realize I had to leave. Everything happens so much these days, so I thought I’d write down for myself what happened, and how I made my decision: ethanmarcotte.com/wrote/leavin...

Takeaway from attending a karaoke night: EVERY song is longer than you think.

I have feelings about AI & the web & my experience being trans "in tech" in 2025 - so I screamed some thoughts onto my personal web log. I hope for all of us a more queer & humane future. Keep building communities & dreaming better paths. https://www.miriamsuzanne.com/2025/02/12/tech-ai-wtf/
