Awesome work Matt! I’ve been using unpic for 2 years now and it is amazing! I’m honored I got to contribute the Svelte 5 component for this release!

Love this! fixes all my current problems with actions. Main one being they don’t work with components. No more bind:element onMount action(element) Super excited to see it implemented!

Vitest, testing library, jest-dom. Though I have tried happy-dom a bit. Most of my tests for components are pretty dumb though just checking if it renders with the right accessibility attributes. if the logic gets more intense we split it into a separate file and test that.

My hint for when to use them is if it only happens on client and doesn’t need SSR it is usually best an action. For example I’ll shamelessly plug my phone number formatter I recently wrote. It only needs to format in response to the user typing. So action fits well gist.github.com/bertybot/024...

I’ve recently come to a revelation of how much I have underutilized them. Mostly from migrating to svelte 5. Most of my effect calls were from doing stuff with element that were easily replaced with an action. More efficient and reusable too!
