Granted, Isiah didn't have quite that pedigree and took more shots himself, but we're still talking about an All-NBA First-Teamer who had a hot hand that game (9-14, including all 3 of the 3-pointers made by anyone on the court that day).
It's silly that this is still a thing.

A rookie who went 2-for-9 got a couple fewer shots off than Moses, Dr. J, and Bird (all MVPs and starters of the most recent two NBA titles)? Clearly a petty conspiracy...

The Donkey Kong Country series replaced its male leads with a badass rocker girl and a literal baby 30 years ago. Bigoted tools have NEVER been welcome!

Thanks! Those were my 3 personal "out there" picks. The others feel pretty iron-clad among the GC's best (maybe some disagree about Prime 2, and I bet RE4 being on about 500 other platforms will cost it some votes, but I think they'll still both be top 20 at worst).

Conversely, while I'm glad people celebrate the things they like, I do think it's a little funny when people will post a clip and say "imagine calling a movie with [this] in it bad!" Wow, a 140-minute movie had a cool 2-minute scene in it! Naturally, the whole film must be great!

Our only (tourney) loss to UK was in Magic's freshman year. Izzo's 2-0 vs. UK. 2-0 vs. Florida as well.

There's definitely a shot! I'd say GameCube has a good shot of a #1 Mario RPG, too (though Wind Waker, Metroid Prime, and Melee will be some stiff competition).

advantage, which is no surprise at this point. What's more rare is we actually have the size advantage over Miss.
Related: Arguably their biggest weakness is rebounding, especially allowing opponents to grab offensive boards. Plays to one of the Spartans' biggest strengths. (2/2).

I'm nervous about every single-elimination matchup, especially with our team's tendency to have cold spurts on offense, but my reasons for hope:
I'm actually pretty happy with how we've dealt with zones. It doesn't look pretty, but I've definitely seen worse from MSU teams.
We have a depth (1/?)

It's funny, because when I hear people disagree, chances are very high their frame of reference is Chicago (or Cleveland).
Like no, the lakes are not at their best right next to a sprawling metropolis.
But Michigan or Wisconsin's coasts? Stunning!

Four B1G teams and six Hockey East teams in a 16-team tourney. Just hard to separate some of these teams for any longer than one round.

Yoshi's Island is my favorite game of all time, in large part because I find that it perfectly balances the best aspects of 2D and 3D Mario. Plus it has better bosses than either, and a better art style (with the possible exceptions of Wonder and the Galaxies). LOVE SM64's soundtrack, though!

I'm honor-bound to point out the Game 6 "phantom foul", Lakers fans storming the court during (not after) the Pistons' last possession in Game 7, AND Magic bumping Isiah during same possession.

Things I've learned today: MSU having the 2nd-most Q1 wins doesn't help them against other prospective 1 seeds.
MSU picking up a whole 2 Q2 losses is something they should be concerned about.

I don't think anyone's arguing MSU should be the OVERALL 1 seed. What other 3 teams does MSU have zero case against?

career just a bit, possibly because he was before our time and/or his averages/career numbers don't necessarily leap off the page without context (played in shorter seasons, teams could play stall ball and keepaway on offense, etc).

And that's with only 62 college games played and 8 tourney games! Getting a triple double in over 1/8th of your games is CRAZY!
Mateen's leadership and intangibles are through the roof, on the other hand. It's a good argument. I just sometimes feel Spartans tend to underrate Magic's college
comment in response to

But I also consider that Magic put up better numbers with no shot clock and no 3-point line. His 8 triple doubles are, to the best of my knowledge, 3rd-most all time. He's one of only 3 guys known to have multiple triple-doubles in the tourney (2, tied with Draymond and behind only the Big O).

It's a fair case, though I think if we play the "influence on the program" game like in your last sentence, that may actually be a point in Magic's favor, the single most famous athlete to ever come through our school.
Mateen's four great years to Magic's two is a strong point in Mateen's favor.

Well, you see, Gonzaga, for instance, has more Quad 1 losses, more Quad 2 losses, has played fewer Quad 1 games overall, plays in a weaker conference, has a worse overall record...
Oh wait, you were looking for an explanation that makes sense? Sorry, can't help you!

at that point, after previously hovering around the 3-point-line, is so obviously out of pettiness.
It's not even good positioning to prevent the fast break he was supposedly so terrified of.
Anyway, good stuff to play on the jumbotron at pregame/halftime on their next visit (2/2).

Him outright saying the officials told him there would be a senior tradition at center court makes his whole "foam fingers, Netflix, wokka wokka" schtick pretty pointless. Even if he doesn't know EXACTLY what the tradition entails, your guards hunkering down right at center court (1/?)

Yeah, as I understand it, Respert started it in '95, but it didn't become an annual thing until Mateen brought it back in 2000. So yeah, very different situation.

I mean, I remember our fanbase getting pretty pumped up about past BTT wins. I think there's a good argument to value the regular-season more, but BTT titles are worth celebrating in their own right. Two separate things up for grabs (and we objectively have the best BTT history. Why downplay it?)

Is this like how a couple years ago, some UM fans tried to start a conversation about abolishing handshake lines, something that everyone has managed to do peacefully except for one guy slapping/threatening to kill multiple opponents?
comment in response to

This kinda reminds me of 2014 UM football staking Spartan Stadium as massive underdogs before getting walloped...adds a little seasoning to what would otherwise "just" be a satisfying blowout win.

Make that 97-92. Also, MSU leads for the past 100 years (not using hyperbole to just mean "a long time" here. Literally 1925-present).

We ONLY lose to:
Indiana in natties and conference titles.
UCLA in natties, FFs, and conference titles.
We tie Oregon in conference tourney titles.
The fact we win every other category against the entire current B1G, even counting decades of pre-Izzo, is extremely impressive to me.
comment in response to

Heck, even if we go back to MSU's very first B1G season in 1951, and compare them against all 17 current B1G opponents, AND count other schools' previous conference successes...we're obviously not the best in all categories anymore, but it's pretty remarkable how we stack up:
