A shorter version of my thread: for chrissakes can we pay attention to what fascism does instead of what it says? No, Trump isn’t trying stupidly and failing to revive U.S. industry. He’s trying quite effectively to burn it down so he can rule the ashes. Seriously. That’s the plan.

Pre election 🍊💩🤡: No more American wars! Post election: I'm invading Canada, Panama and shoving missiles down Houthi throats.

"Petymology" -- the study of the inscrutable source of pet names. "Sure, we call him "Tinks,"but that is just short form for Tinkly-Winkly, which is a nickname from "Mr. Tinkles," which derives from his "legal" name of "J. Reginald Tinklesworth, esquire."

FDR once bragged to a massive crowd at Madison Square Garden that the richest people in the nation hated him and “I welcome their hatred.” Just weeks later, he was re-elected with 61% of the vote in a 523-8 blowout in the Electoral College. Voters *like* politicians who make the right enemies.

hey, my Mom just received March 6th, a $7008 payment from the Social Security Admin ... when her normal check is $372. WTAF? @maddow.msnbc.com , @chrislhayes.bsky.social

Comfirmed, corroborated.

What's happening is a technocratic coup. Illegal? Yes. That doesn't mean it isn't happening. Nor does it mean we currently possess means to stop it. Nonetheless, those with power must try. So far, most aren't.

Roughly 10 years ago I was reading about how effective Elon Musk was in watching Tesla and getting around the obstacles imposed by the big three GM, Chrysler and Ford. I could not anticipate that his strategy would be applied to our government.

Zoning is relaxed in 'Stallis.

Not a Rawlsian to be found!

All this talk about buying Greenland... Grandpa was kicking the tires back in 1951 when Thule was built, in the second largest military deployment after D-Day.

So abortion is "sent back to the States," ostensibly because of the 10th Amendment? What about the second half of the 10th? "...or to the People." Abortion is an individual person's right. The State has no legitimate place in denying women's rights.

I'm a sucker for a good Freeway Sunset. I-94 headed toward Madison, WI.

@queens-photog.bsky.socialyour handle has now normalized. :-)

As we kickstart Bluesky once again, let me remind you what my feed is about: politics, religion, dill pickles, kumiko woodworking, good beer, and bad puns. You've been warned

Perfectly Beautiful Wisconsin Fall sky... ruined by a Deplorian.

I don't want some egghead bureaucrat telling me whether there's poison in the water I drink. Ideally I'd want that decided by a 29yo judge who went to a "biblical law school" and does not believe dinosaurs existed, and then to have that decision reaffirmed six years later by the Supreme Court.

Suppose I should post something? It always looks nicer on TV.

Here’s some Bluesky!

If you like a crisp, vinegar-forward dill pickle, in tiny bites, then Three Little Pigs Cornichon’s could be for you! Delish!!

Too easy for me. 😬😬

Flag maintenance in a deep red subdivision. A metaphor.

People do not seem to think that understanding history deeply helps with understanding present problems, and it’s fascinating to see how the erosion of the humanities has contributed to this.

How do I tell my queer child not to be afraid of the world when the speaker of the house has written in favor of criminalizing their very existence? I think as upset as we are, the scale of this bluntly fascist victory has not yet fully registered. amp.cnn.com/cnn/2023/10/...

I’m so frustrated with all the pundits who declared “revenge of the squishes” & “return of the moderates.” When will they give up this fantasy of a “normal” GOP? This is *it.* They rejected Jordan because they didn’t like *him.* Now Johnson, a slow-coup plotter. “Squishes” say aye to fascism.
