turns out many people in new york city were just one brown candidate away from dropping the mask over their anti-muslim paranoia

Food deserts exist because private actors don't see opportunities for profit in them; one of the literal purposes of government in a mixed economy is to correct for the failures of the market to do things like provide accessible, affordable food.

This is also funny because there aren’t that many large box store grocery stores in NYC.

I remember 2008 very well and when Obama outpaced Hillary, there was quite a lot of concern in the Jewish community for…reasons. Now all the bubbies have Michelle Obama’s book on their coffee tables.

Sorry, how old does Laura Ingraham think Mamdani is

OK usually I just ignore like, outright lies, but this one really bothers me. Zohran Mamdani's bill "Not On Our Dine" was written to strip nonprofit registration and tax exempt status from people who do business with West Bank settlements and the Israeli army. AKA, to enforce existing tax law.

Just a reminder that Fiorello LaGuardia, NYC’s most famous reformer ran on a Dem socialist platform more than once. (Also, we share a birthday which is not relevant but pleases me.)

I stand by what I said several months ago: RFK is the most dangerous person in Trump's cabinet and it's not even close.

We quote this in my household like once a month @brendelbored.bsky.social

Any excuse to repost an all-time Bluesky banger

Yeah we're fucked

They do what now

I am honored to receive the endorsement of the dean of our city’s congressional delegation, Representative Jerry Nadler. Jerry has been a principled progressive leader for decades and a champion for all New Yorkers. I am grateful for his partnership as our historic journey continues.

Hottest (likely) mayor since Lindsay, but go off I guess

FYI this is a commenter, not the NYT itself

And the head of the army is a Christian Nationalist! Like what are we doing here

Andrew Yang came in *fourth* in 2021 www.nytimes.com/2025/06/25/o...

Mamdani: I want to look into a way to make groceries more accessible and affordable for everyday New Yorkers Genius pundit: 1984 called. They said "Soviet Union." Enjoy being waterboarded with seed oils. I will be seeking refuge at my primary residence or vacation home until sanity is restored.

Zohran’s plan is to open five grocery stores in food deserts, there’s absolutely no way that TCW ends up anywhere near one, he would find being near it to be below his station

Viral videos and podcasts did not help a socialist win over a third of Staten Island. Be fucking serious lmao. Thanks to Zohran Mamdani, establishment Dems woke up to a jarring new political reality this morning: If you care about things people will vote for you. www.garbageday.email/p/if-you-re-...

Incredible mom energy from Mira Nair

Also not for nothing but underemployed 30 y/os who are $200k in debt points to the larger societal ills that progressives have been trying to fix, so

The current mayor of NYC is literally doing podcasts with violent antisemites but a socialist wins the primary and all of a sudden Jews are unsafe? Get the fuck outta here.

Yes if it has two beds and two bathrooms I’m happy to release you from it - enjoy Florida!

An NY1 panelist pointed out last night that during the campaign it was difficult to get Cuomo to “go out and talk to people.” Adams won in 2021 in part b/c as BK borough prez, he went to like, every single party. It makes a difference!

There’s just so much: the victory of a new political talent, the loss of an old tyrant, the possibilities of alliance & positive strategizing, the hope for a more just future, the cracking of the last generation’s stranglehold on power. Also the joy and force of Tish James! Listen to her voice!

I love this stupid city.

general election preview: zohran: freeze the rent and make buses fast and free cuomo: new york city is a hellhole eric adams: we hustle and grind at the hotel of wisdom, god is my DJ when I’m on the dance floor of success, new york is the home of pizza and 9/11

you know what? no one made Andrew Cuomo do any of this. no one was like, "you know what NYC needs in the midst of a housing crisis? the former governor serial harasser nursing home murderer once tied romantically tied to the Semi Homemade lady"

This week I got like 10 Fix the City texts from "Rachel" telling me that Mamdani was "wrong for Jewish New Yorkers" (in addition to like, dozens of "Mamdani is antisemitic" fliers)

if mamdani wins, the main lesson i am going to take from it is that charismatic and likable candidates can win elections. it’s not exactly groundbreaking, but it’s literally always been true.

This is Mamdani's night and I'm so happy but also my god this man is a hero

A Muslim son of immigrants might become mayor of NYC in part because he cross endorsed and supported a Jewish candidate and Black candidate, and vice versa. It's a beautiful American story for the rest of us. A nightmare for all the right people ;) It's so New York.
