this is fucking insane. what you're talking about is interoperability on an absolutely incomprehensible scale and i love it so much

This isn't impossible, but understandably gives people headaches. The other side of this is content moderation, which you can see they're also careful with - 3rd party moderation isn't just possible but actively encouraged with things like user-created blocklists

2. As others already pointed out well, the idea of doing verification is a nightmare for a decentralized network like Bluesky and is quite the opposite of what they're working towards. It means you have to unilaterally trust a (corporate) entity to grade its users based on some arbitrary metric. 3/

…audience on the internet. Also, DNS already has some safeguards. If you have trademark rights to a domain name, you may be able to legally claim it from its owner. This already solves the big problem of *that username is already taken*, at least in cases where legitimacy really matters. 2/

There are, mainly, two good reasons for verification by domain name:
1. People, especially orgs, often need domains anyway. In that way, it's about redundancy. The problem of scammers buying fake domains exists, but it already does for people, orgs & companies looking to get a broad public… 1/

may be true. i still think of it as a practical way to divide land though. it has an intuitive logic to it and it might just help us fight housing problems in big cities

I think the missing point there is really the taxing of businesses. Think about what kind of money states have. To financially support such an effort, we'd have to force businesses to pay us taxes and that's technically kind of very very illegal

That honestly sounds like a lot of people paying a lot of money for the benefits of a few people which isn't really what UBI is supposed to accomplish, dare I say the exact opposite of it lol

I've often thought about something like a membership based UBI. Kinda difficult to realize though, without the kind of financial weight that states get from taxing businesses

That's a cool project. Might really help spread thoughts on UBI
