Early retirees rely on stock market growth for long-term income, but this risks losses early on; a gradual shift to safer investments helps, though it won't eliminate all risk and may reduce potential gains. What is your risk tolerance? #FIRE earlyretirementnow.com/2017/09/13/t...

do you have any idea just how badly you have to fuck up to get Canada mad at you

It’s a golden age for drug companies that no longer have to lower their prices. It’s a golden age for oil executives as clean energy is being killed.

Day one of his administration and Donald Trump has already made the Jewish community less safe.

Anyone who ever again suggests that the GOP is the party of the police or the party of law and order should be laughed out of the room. There has never been anything like this before in modern US history: the president pardoning people who we all saw on live TV assaulting police.

They are still as incompetent and stupid as before. It’s because they work for a fucking idiot.

Trump’s White House just withdrew the US from the Paris Climate Agreement and World Health Organization. This shameful embrace of science denial puts the entire world at greater risk of climate catastrophe and deadly pandemics.

Climate is the long-term average of weather. It is defined by a 30-year period referred to as a "normal", which is updated each decade. It's necessary to calculate long term averages to remove the impact of short-term weather fluctuations. 🧪🔌💡☀️💨🔋+... www.climate.gov/news-feature...

Just have to say that the $Trump meme coin is a gift to all of us who are not fans of his. It’s just a matter of time until a lot of people lose money from this. I’m a crypto fan. This is not crypto any more than Madoff was just buying and selling shares of stock

📌 The United States' GDP in 2024 is estimated to be around $29.167 trillion, making it the world's largest economy. In the 3rd quarter of 2024, the US GDP increased by 4.7%.

Last year averaged the 5th lowest #Arctic sea ice volume on record. Sea ice exhibits large year-to-year variability (e.g., due to weather conditions) on top of the long-term declining trend. More info about data: climatedataguide.ucar.edu/climate-data...

The major climate groups monitoring global temperature released their estimates for 2024. The anomalies range from +1.46 to +1.62°C, likely the first post-industrial year with Earth +1.5°C above pre-industrial conditions. The 30-year climate average is still ~1.2°C but obviously increasing 🧪 +...

The air you breathe, the water you drink, the chemicals under your sink, the car you drive, food you eat and a host of daily routines depend on actions of the EPA and the EPA administrator – the equivalent of a Cabinet secretary. https://buff.ly/3C6YyrS (Stan Meiburg @wakeforest.bsky.social) 🌎

We lost our home and everything we own in the Eaton Canyon fire. Climate change is real and it’s a bitch.

I don't want to sound like a conspiracy theorist but honestly the fact that China is building the world's largest mega dam on the Yarlung Tsangpo (Brahmaputra) and the recent earthquake's epicenter being Dingri, near Shigatse, is just too much coincidence to sit well with me. 🤨

Renewables now provide the majority of the electricity generation in the UK as fossil fuel use declines. They closed the last of their coal power plants in 2024 +... 🧪🔌💡☀️💨🔋

On Christmas day, Antarctica will lose about 400 times this Eiffel Tower high ice cube from record surface melt. 🇦🇶🧊📉

Wow. Hard to be afraid of the US losing it's place in the world. I suppose that is what they said when the Roman empire was at its peak.

Today the great divide is not between left and right. It’s between democracy and oligarchy. Let me explain.

The biggest divide in America today is not between “right” and “left,” or between Republicans and Democrats. It’s between democracy and oligarchy. The old labels — “right” and “left” — prevent most people from noticing they’re being shafted. Know the truth.

The key takeaway is that the world’s richest man got what he wanted; stripped our cancer funding for kids, killed reforms to bring down drugs prices and caps on investment in China. Trump on the other hand demanded a debt ceiling raise and got nothing.

The first solar facade building in Australia will provides excess power and enable the building to reach net zero emissions during it’s lifetime. It will feature no fossil fuel use for building systems. The future is renewable. 🧪🔌💡☀️💨🔋

We all need to be eating at the table. Every small change in how we produce, store and use renewable energy is important.

Advancement in renewable technology and reduced costs for that technology is the only thing that can save us

Climate science identified polar amplification via the potent ice-albedo feedback centuries ago & decades ago as an indication of anthropogenic GHG forcing. Permafrost melting, CH4 release & boreal wildfires are additional polar positive feedbacks now in play. 🧪🔌💡🌊 www.climate.gov/news-feature...

I read the first post in this thread about mirror life, thought “they can’t mean…”, and then clicked the link. Yep, that’s exactly what they mean. Bioengineering reversed-chirality microbes. Vaughn’s piece is a necessary if frightening read.

Ignore all my ranting today and just go listen to Kate Gordon talk about the gathering crisis as climate change & home insurance collide. www.volts.wtf/p/climate-ch...

“…this is an unparalleled chance to do things right. We can find smarter ways, better ways, to support our economy and ourselves, without wrecking the planet and compromising the lives of people in the future.” Powerful post by @globalecoguy.bsky.social.

I sampled a white pine log at this boat landing a couple years ago. It was overgrown with willows and partially decomposed in the soil. I finally measured it today and it dates from 1422-1588. It was a nice 30-minute break from the work I should be doing. #treering #dendrochronology

Yes it is 🧪 🔌💡
