What if Canadian churches took similar actions.......

Such a disaster! Collectively we had eradicated Polio and Malaria from most countries in the world. We also had collectively worked to limit the impact of COVID......how foolish can human be.......

💥BREAKING💥 - Wow we've joined 200 singers at @stpaulscathedrallondon. Our voices are filling the space. Singers from @climatechoirs & @wildcardcampaign are calling on the @thechurchofengland Church Commissioners to commit to rewilding 30% of their 105,000 acre estate by 2030.. 1/3👇

Three years ago, I had the honour of collaborating with Ukrainian dancers from Edmonton via a virtual meeting. They taught me some Ukrainian dance moves, and I taught them some Bhangra moves. I'm sharing the video today in solidarity because standing with the oppressed is standing for lasting peace.

resistance at its best!

The Office of the Child and Youth Advocate (OCYA) represents the rights, interests, and viewpoints of young people. It is an independent office of the Alberta Legislature (not part of the Government). As Catherine outlines in this 🧵, the UCP are limiting how they report on outcomes of youth. 1/5

Leadership in action!

Crazy! Definitely more drastic than the UCP actions in Alberta, but I think made with the same spite towards cleaner energy initiatives.

away from social media while I was in India. Fascinating 3 weeks full of colour, noise, music, culture, history, famous sites but also discovered a country working hard to turn to more green energy with support for e scooters, cars and solar power investment.

I appreciate the willingness of AMA to challenge the report commissioned by the UCP government. Having lived in countries where access to life saving vaccines where not available for all, it is unconceivable for me that my province would chose to spend money on this report.

Danielle Smith and the UCP spent $2 million of your public money to prop up anti-science conspiracy theorists. They were paid millions to peddle misinformation and advocate for regressive dangerous policies. 🧵 www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/artic...

If you share my deep concern that a fascist like Elon Musk could use the X algorithm to interfere with the upcoming Canadian election please write to Elections canada and demand a full investigation into X's interference in Canada. [email protected] www.cbc.ca/news/politic...

here's this week's AB COVID stats update Deaths: up 4 to 315 (last update up 17). (finally, weekly deaths dropping) Positivity: down to 5% from 5.2% Inpts: down 23 to 161. ICU steady at 6. source: www.alberta.ca/stats/dashbo...

Believe it or not, the Alberta government has quietly lifted the coal moratorium, once again exposing Eastern Slopes headwaters to exploitation and destruction. Join the fight to reverse this disastrous decision: saveourslopes.ca

Thinking of my USA friends tomorrow. As a Canadian I worry about the possibility of trade disruptions between our countries, the lack of environment protection, denial of climate change, non-science based decisions on vaccines, the deportation of millions of persons, removal of EDI practices......

It seems the UCP think they should get to choose Edmonton’s next Chief of Police. I explain how Public Safety Minister Mike Ellis is interfering in the independent process to select public reps who oversee the EPS. It’s disturbing, unprecedented, & unacceptable. youtu.be/TZVAFv7vheA?... #abpoli

Why not spend January 20 in prayer and service? Great suggestions from @shawnrain.bsky.social #alternatives bethanyhangout.com/2025/01/17/t...

This week, we spoke with the indomitable @katharinehayhoe.com about how climate science got to be so polarized and why she thinks scientists should stop trying to pretend to be neutral when it's our planet at risk. www.cbc.ca/radio/quirks...

What turns a wildfire into a disaster, and where does climate change come in? I break it down here ...

Skate skiing is fun! First lesson tonight. Very different from classic cross country skiing. Great way to prolong the season as climate change reduces the amount of snow in and around the Edmonton region.

IMPORTANT: If you live in the United States or Canada, you’ve probably heard Trump‘s constant claim that the United States is “subsidizing” Canada. It’s wrong of course, but here’s the best explanation I’ve seen about how & why it’s wrong. PLEASE WATCH & SHARE IT A LOT. Kudos to Andrew Chang & CBC.

For the Bluesky community that does not know this great Canadian in the Yukon. Follow him for renewing faith in human kind.

Gosh the fires happening in California are heart breaking. Climate change isn't just statistics & graphs. People are losing their lives & people's worlds are being turned upside down. How is humanity sitting back & letting this happen? www.google.com/amp/s/www.bb...

A good list for all of us - would be great if my church groups would use the list to spark conversations on their role to Care for Creation.

For those of you in the US, Canadians DO NOT want to be a 51st state and lose our healthcare, excellent public schools, inclusion policies, climate change mitigation, bilingualism and above all the respect we have for democracy. Please let your republican senators and representatives know.

Not only in the US! here in Canada we find ourselves having to increasingly call out the vicious attacks made by people who believe in the false information propagated by influencers on the far right.

Some of you might know about the French galette des rois for Epiphany. The tradition is to have a feve or bean hidden and the person who gets it is the King or Queen for the day. Had fun making them after not doing so for many years. Happy Epiphany to those of you who celebrate it.

If Costco is willing to keep using the language of EDI, why is U of A removing that language? Are we already in Alberta living under Trump and Poilievre? Or just pandering to Smith and the UCP?

What kind of city does Toronto want to be? At the heart of this debate lies a fundamental clash of visions on urban mobility that goes far beyond bike lanes, by @jenniferkeesmaat.bsky.social www.theglobeandmail.com/opinion/arti... via @theglobeandmail.com

The death of Jimmy Carter & the election (& cabinet choices) of Donald Trump makes the reading of "Jesus & John Wayne" an important book . The book is also a warning to those of us in Canada who see similar trends reflected in our evangelical churches/pastors. RIP president Carter!

Good on Costco. They remain a company that appears to provide better working conditions and be willing to provide leadership in a number of areas. Just wish they had better sustainability policies and eliminate plastic shells for cardboard packing for their fruits and veggies.

Wish the UCP MLAs would think about the legacy they are giving the province in Canada and around the world. this UCP government has no ability to understand the responsibility of governing and instilling trust in their actions.

Important new study shows that the best way to power data centers is with solar microgrids! Also, 1.5 million Germans have hung solar panels off their balconies this year, and now Spaniards are copying them! Also, kids in Montana win huge climate fight! billmckibben.substack.com/p/three-smal...

Had a fantastic time this morning talking with folks across the country on CBC Radio morning shows about how changing climate is impacting how we experience winters in Canada. All of the discussion stemming from a great report from Climate Central. www.climatecentral.org/report/lost-...

The influence of Trump's allies is felt in Alberta through our increasingly unhinged premier who accepts unproved statements from her supporters. I feel that living in Alberta I must support the efforts of those who are fighting MAGA in the US before we are also infected with it deadly virus.

As a cross country skier, so happy for the snow we have had over the last couple of weeks. Looking forward to skiing in a provincial park today. For those of you who live without snow, there are benefits to a snowfall! Unfortunately, climate change has made snow conditions inconsistent.

I was part of the orange wave that was elected in 2015 with Rachel as leader. She managed to break the 44 year rule of the PC party in Alberta. Still proud of the Climate Change initiatives. Wishing Rachel well as she engages in new adventures, knowing that her legacy forever changed Alberta!

Danielle Smith is focused on anything but affordability. Instead of working to get better wages for Albertans, she gave big raises to appointees at the Alberta Energy Regulator. You deserve a gov't focused on helping you, not their friends. You deserve better. Better is possible. #ableg
