I've always liked WIRED. But I did not have on my 2025 notes - WIRED becomes THE source for the most important investigative journalism of our time (with respect for ProPublica and a few others)

Colbert nails it

We'll say it again: No, 150-year-olds are not collecting Social Security benefits. #SOTU www.wired.com/story/elon-m...

Two market meltdowns. One common denominator.

This is Marco Rubio explaining how the USA promised to defend Ukraine forever if they got rid of their nuclear arsenal left after the Soviet Union fell. This is why lil marco was sinking into the couch. He was hoping we wouldn’t find it…so don’t RT right now this very second.

Abandoning an ally fighting desperately against a tyrant. Is that how we make America great again? Absolutely deplorable. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

Sigh... [places needle back on record player] This would be a great time for all national Democratic leaders to get together and offer something in the way of a coherent plan, some kind of vision for what the party should be doing right now.

This is the “Golden Age” he is talking about, more gold for him. And we are paying for it.

The free world has new leaders. Does not look like America played their cards very well. Are we great Again? I just feel a lot of shame.

Graduate programs ceasing admissions in the US due to funding being cut off is going to cause a really interesting predicament for private industry when companies want to hire trained researchers in 4-5 years.

What is the choice? You sit there and remain silent, trying to respect the forum and tradition, thereby giving credence to the nonsense and lies. Empty seats will speak more loudly than sitting in silence.

Perfect

He is either an agent, or a useful idiot. He has removed all doubt.

Since I have defended and supported the WaPo in the months since the election and the infamous pulled endorsement, I feel obliged to say: this is very, very bad. A dear friend at a Post vet says it's the worst thing to happen to the Post in its long history, and I can't argue.

Democratic Leaders Stand Real Still In Hopes No One Notices Them

In Opinion “Let’s be clear: Shrinking the IRS will not lower your tax obligation,” a group of former IRS commissioners writes. “Aggressive reductions in the IRS’s resources will only render our government less effective and less efficient.”

So if they go to Ft. Knox and the gold is not there, since Chuck was the last one to actually see it, doesn’t that make him the chief suspect?

The American public has made it abundantly clear that they want change. Now that they are seeing the change GOP leadership is offering, they still want change and the DEMS continue to offer their version of the status quo. Time for change. @smith.senate.gov @amyklobuchar.com @schumer.senate.gov

ICONIC: Yosemite National Park workers just hung an upside-down American flag—THOUSANDS of feet up on El Capitan. That’s not decoration. That’s a distress signal. They’re telling us the country is in danger. Are you paying attention? www.sfchronicle.com/outdoors/art...

$200 million taxpayer dollars spent on “tell me I’m pretty” ads to stroke his own ego, while he fires people to “save money.” Sociopathic.

Prior to the Permanent Apportionments Act of 1929, every reapportionment act required that districts be compact and contiguous, limiting gerrymandering. Expanding the House would make districts smaller; more competitive, responsive, and accountable; and make the House more representative.

This fantastic piece by Stewart Patrick is an excellent summary of the wrecking ball that Trump is taking to the entire international order crafted by Dem & Repub presidents over 80 yrs. Who does this benefit? The Kremlin, for certain. No one else. carnegieendowment.org/emissary/202...

MAGA is not sending us their very best.

Amen to that.

Teachers teach. We need a leaderful movement, and there are leaders all around us.

Every member of Congress should be required to go record with a detailed response to this. @morrison4mn.bsky.social @smith.senate.gov @amyklobuchar.com

Could someone place an order for 100 more Jasmine Crocketts for overnight delivery to the Democratic Party thx in advance

We need to do exactly the opposite. The House needs to expand and their staff needs to triple. The work of passing policy and budgeting legislation, (can’t have one without the other) should be done on a bi-partisan basis in committees. Committees led by the majority party, but working together.

If you wanted to cut waste, fraud, and abuse, you would empower the inspectors general. If you wanted more waste, fraud, and abuse, you would fire them.

What if….and hear me out…..what IF…Neuralink actually worked too well and Elon put a chip in his brain and it really is the robots trying to kill us all. That’s the only logical explanation for all of this destruction. I mean…I’ve seen Marvel movies..and Terminator.

Go ahead. Let the people see you for what you are.

the single most un-american and anti-constitutional statement ever uttered by an american president

A week ago, I sued Trump over his unconstitutional executive order attacking gender-affirming care. A court just issued an order blocking that executive order in Minnesota for the next two weeks. On 2/28, we'll be back in court to ask for an indefinite halt to this cruel bullying of our children.

Why does a 38-year old U.S. Attorney in SDNY, who is also a die hard conservative, have more guts and integrity than the entirety of the GOP Senate Conference combined?! Shame on the shameless sycophants and enablers there, who can’t find the spine to stand up to common MAGA bullies.

The states are doing the job that Congress is supposed to do. @smith.senate.gov @amyklobuchar.com @morrison4mn.bsky.social

This lawsuit, and its success as it moves through the courts, is proof that Congress is broken. The senate is unable and unwilling to meet its constitutionally required oversight duties. The House is unable and unwilling to assert its “power of the purse.”

Do you think President Musk lets him sit in that chair when the press is not in the room?

Crockett: While he was stopping money… somehow the only money that didn’t stop was the money going to his organization. I don’t know you can have him be watchdog as well as the guy living off of the government. If you want to talk about government welfare, it looks like Elon Musk

This reads like the opening paragraph of a novel so bleakly dystopian you'd put it down after five pages

Five Former Treasury Secretaries: Our Democracy Is Under Siege www.nytimes.com/2025/02/10/o...

In the three weeks since President Donald Trump has been back in the White House, Elon Musk has rapidly burrowed deep into federal agencies while avoiding public scrutiny of his work. He has not answered questions from journalists or attended any hearings with lawmakers.

They are not doing what they say they are doing.

Tesla paid $0 in federal income tax last year. 2022: $0 2021: $0 2020: $0 2019: $0 2018: $0 Tesla reported $6.7 billion in profit in those years.
