The wall across from Nankoweap, Grand Canyon National Park.

Here’s a photo I took of Grandma’s Curb. She lovingly cared for this cherished mid-street curb for decades. On hot summer days, she would carry a bucket of water to the curb to water it and scrubbed out blemishes. She died at 107 but now Councilmember Saka wants to remove this historic curb?

I think I’ll shutdown the cron job tracking the history for YR4. I enjoyed seeing the curve! http://billmerrill.github.io/yar_impact.html https://www.npr.org/2025/02/25/nx-s1-5307892/asteroid-2024yr4-not-hitting-earth-after-all

I’m thankful I don’t have anything too complex planned today, the winds nudged me awake all night.

no king but biking

Dear lazyweb, Do you know how to easily reflow text from Safari? I run into these fixed with text blocks that Safari’s reader mode don’t touch. I can work around but wonder if somebody made an easy way. https://www.madsci.org/posts/archives/jul99/931435915.As.r.html

We went for a hike yesterday, this view was a great consolation for Paradise being closed. Looking across the Nisqually River valley from Rampart Ridge in Mount Rainier National Park.

Today I decided I wanted to understand how the including the curvature of the Earth might impact a relief map... a 3D model of terrain. I learned a bit about Coordinate Reference Systems and decided it could be interesting to add this to my model engine. billmerrill.github.io/curvature.html

There’s a classic attack on finance software: stealing fractions of a cent as amounts are rounded. Rarely implemented because the collection account usually leads to the thief, I mean if there’s auditing. Don’t know why that popped into my head.

elon & co. are spending their dunning-krugerrands very, very quickly

Flappy Triangles now remembers. http://billmerrill.github.io/flappy_triangle.html

The completion of the E Marginal Way project is gonna be great…(next year)

Yesterday I rode my trainer and listened to @standupmaths.bsky.social’s Love Triangle. This led me to want to animate some triangles and today I made this flappy triangle. Two arms spin and stretch randomly, stopping only if they become a triangle. A little fun with MatPlotLib for Python.

Watching all the traffic use the 26th greenway to shave 30 seconds off their commute is really pissing me off this morning

Interesting to read this and apply the model to other domains (eg, tech/systems design, code review, etc): backofmind.substack.com/p/needles-an...

The Rock at Chicxulub.

I caught one of the voids in the light.

Happy coincidence, our flight to Detroit is #313.

If you see this post, quote with a bridge from your gallery.

I’m digging into a story map idea I’ve had for the last decade. The Grand Canyon has become the forcing the issue for me.

The clouds returned today.

The voids are paying attention.

Have you or a loved one been treated for cancer? Ever have a vaccine? Had someone you love revived by chest compressions? If so, then you have benefited from NIH-funded research, which has just been effectively shut down by the cancellation of NIH study sections. No new research allowed.

I am embarrassed at how long it took me to realize leaflet and geoJSON use different ordering of latitude and longitude in coordinates. And how deep I got into the debugger before I realized my problem was so simple.

While it’s sobering, I’m really enjoying going over my old roadmaps from 2020 and 21. So many things I saw needing to happen did happen but some happened very differently.

The dry, sunny day led me to finally clean the interior of my car’s windshield. That led me to take car of a couple more maintenance tasks. I’ve got a YT playlist of howtos for my car but I miss being able to buy a Chiltons.

The void cats don’t really care about boxes but they will outright murder refracted light.

Very low dark clouds and ebullient smoke stacks have Seattle looking real dystopia. I’m head up to the pass for some sun!

Funemployment: Drink a pot of coffee to avoid doing work, rather than drink a pot of coffee to accomplish work.

a very awkward reminder that I’m eligible in the fan artist categories for my 2024 work

Still nerdin’ out on bike geometry.
