Yeah, I think this is a big part of the problem. There are genuinely going to be a lot of people who don’t know anything about the chant who are going to join in out of complete ignorance.

But, generally, if people tell you they find something you’re doing offensive, common courtesy would be to not do that thing. And if you’re going to continue doing it even when there’s real consequences for it, you’re just an absolute moron on top of being an asshole.

I’m not going to pretend like I have any understanding of the cultural context of the chant or what it means to different people. I have no clue if people are being genuine when they say they don’t mean for it to have THAT meaning (Although I doubt their sincerity).
