A few dusty Good Friday reckons. I posted yesterday about inflation, showing how much global oil prices drive wider pricing in NZ. Here's the same graph for diesel retail prices. The *bestest thing* we could to to prevent inflation shocks would be to reduce our reliance on imported fuels. [🧵 1/n]

People that are the most danger to women - parents and partners. Evidence of this - all statistics, throughout time. People who get accused of being a danger to women…. Transwomen. Evidence of this - nothing of any substance. Anecdotal at best. Can we just go with the evidence for once.

Just a little update for the busy, from the world of science: 1) There's no life on K2-18b 2) Vaccines cause adults 3) They are not Dire Wolves Carry on.

If you're going to own / drive such a ridiculously oversized vehicle, maybe you should learn how to park? I spotted all three of these on the same street in Petone earlier today. #carbrain #utebrain #nz

Letters to the editor, NZ 2026: I voted for the guy who said he’d freeze rates, he got in, saving us hundreds of dollars a year and now property values across the district are down 30% because our toilets flush backwards. Is this awesome?

Andrew Little, the mayoral candidate for folk who love what Tory Whanau is doing but are misogynistic bigots.

Seriously Andrew Little? Ffs. The attack on women in power is from all sides.

The Free Speech Union's role in this case is disgraceful. The mayor's previously-anonymous harasser, Chris Milne, is an FSU member. He was also a Hutt City councillor who was found to have breached the council's code of conduct on counts of conflict of interest and unethical behaviour.

Liars. The average weighted interest rate on NZ mortgages in October 2023 was 5.61%. It is now around 6.1%. Kiwis with mortgages are currently paying over $436m per week in interest compared to $381m in October 2023.

This pisses me off every time I buy these things. Confuseopoly at its finest.

In a few months @dolfweijers.bsky.social and team has provided an unbelievable amount of details on ARF/auxin evolution 😯 Trying to keep track here doi.org/10.1038/s414... doi.org/10.1073/pnas... doi.org/10.1016/j.cu... And the latest @natplants.nature.com 🔽 www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Dr Peter Marks, "Vaccines have been studied very extensively for being potentially associated with autism" "That theory has been debunked" "One study in Denmark, over 600,000 children. It shows that if anything, children had a lower rate of autism than unvaccinated children"

The Regulatory Standards Bill is working its way through government processes despite having failed in three previous iterations. It proposes far-reaching neoliberal reform in line with ACT Party ideology. #nzpol

@etangata.bsky.social sounds the🚨 “The Act Party has tried three times, since 2006, to introduce a version of this bill - failing each time… as its dangerous consequences became clear. Yet, this latest attempt seems to be sailing through with little to no scrutiny…” e-tangata.co.nz/comment-and-...

everyone, don't forget the TPB was the stalking horse for the RSB, ACT NAT NZF will try to keep their evisceration of Aotearoa flying under the radar we can't let them do that #nzpol

‘If anything this is really just beginning. We've got the Regulatory Standards Bill that's going to be introduced at some point before June. That particular bill will do what the Treaty Principle's Bill was aiming to do, but in a different and just more sneaky way’ Exactly. Sneaky.

Green shoots - I ride the Northwestern Bike Path pretty much every workday, and traffic is ticking back up to pre-Covid levels.... Total growth in usage since it went live is over 350% -- if you build good infrastructure it will get used :-)

I made a new animal cell cane

"It's really important to make clear that queer people should not have to erase their identities and minimise ourselves for the comfort of others. We deserve to exist in this world authentically without risk" It's at 15:42 on this video from today: youtu.be/D7tG3aZZsQw?...

dirty politics hate-speech campaign waged against a queer Green MP Spinoff: 'how politically *naive* of the *MP* ACT Party cover up of sexual assault by their president, directly implicating David Seymour Spinoff: 'we just don't have the resource to investigate'

As public health best medical practice, lifespan vaccinations from birth, and vaccine mandates during a pandemic, keep us well and alive. Say it louder for the antivaccine Darwin's Award Folk in the back.

Nelson folks, neo-Nazis have put up posters bullying Benjamin Doyle at the corner of Trafalgar and Hardy Streets. Rip them down if you spot them.
