Google, if you really want to spend money on the ridiculous amounts of energy it takes to annoy an AI with my search queries, well... it's your money! But when I search for "fourier transform of my cat", maybe you can let your AI sit this one out and just give me the web comic I wanted instead.

Honey, wake up! New meme format just dropped!

One thing I worry about with AI, which I haven't seen much written on, is that for better and worse it'd allow for perfect Internet-wide content moderation. Clearly there are some potential consumer benefits, but at least to me it'll be the final end of the Old Weird Internet.

I’m not sure the world has seen a genuine supervillain until 2025. Of course there’ve been countless monsters: hitler, Stalin, pol pot. But a real life figure who fits the Gotham/Metropolis model. Plutocrat bigwig who is actually deeply evil & wants to run the world for cartoonishly stupid reasons.

Reminder: supporting the war in Ukraine is literally the most cost effective project the US military has ever undertaken. For a something like eight percent of the Pentagon’s annual budget, we have reduced the Russian military by something like half, a decades-long setback. Don’t let Russia win now.

Pay attention to what he does, not what he says. Imprisoning immigrants at Guantanamo wasn't just an announcement; they're already doing it, and it doesn't look like they have a high degree of professionalism. I feel like this story is getting lost in the shuffle. lite.cnn.com/2025/02/13/p...

Absolute unit

Ukraine got into a war because Russia invaded them, demanding they give up independence. The only way for Ukraine to not go into war was bowing down to Putin and forfeiting freedom. As Clausewitz said, “The aggressor is always peace-loving… he would prefer to take over our country unopposed.”

For all of the guys who say they think of Rome every day, they sure do forget that the vast majority of Roman military effectiveness (honestly ANY military effectiveness) was due to logistics and supply chains.

there is such a pathological fear among dem electeds of backlash that it leads them to basically do nothing

So, not only are we refusing to take in refugees... we're going to create new refugees and demand other countries take them in? www.pbs.org/newshour/pol...

It's time to end DEI and restore meritocracy. We will start by having six teen-aged children of Elon Musk's friends use glitchy AI tools to analyze federal expenditures.

Remember when we made fun of the Musk fanboys because they told us buying Twitter to ruin it was some kind of tridimensional chess move? I hate to say it, but maybe they had a point.

Just note the Democrats could do everything in their power and still fail to stop the fascist administrative coup. I'd still like them to actually DO THAT, though.

Klingon Captain: Today is a good day to die! Pilot: which day do you mean? The Klingon day starting at midnight on Q’onos? Which time zone? Or do you mean today on the planet we’re orbiting? Mate: I think he means Tuesday Navigator: maybe ANY day is a good day to die Pilot: ok but then why say TODAY

A party bus but it picks you and your friends up after a long week and just goes coffee shop, bookstore, ice cream parlor, thrift shop, short nap, bakery, a different bookstore, museum, cocktail bar on a loop until you feel better

"Neo-Confederates, the Lost Cause, and the Fight Over Black History Month" 🗃️ #BlackHistoryMonth kevinmlevin.substack.com/p/neo-confed...

Big middle finger to everyone who gave me crap for warning that US Constitutional democracy really was on the line in 2024 and key institutions were already degraded. It'll be fine, can't happen here, so partisan. Sorry, I'm not what matters with this, but I'm not enjoying this told-you-so at all.

It is time for our leaders and the new DNC to treat us as “partners in the fight not just donors to the cause.” There has to be a total re-imagination of our party, comms and politics for us to become an effective opposition.

An excellent article showing that some of my complaints about the Democratic Party over the last fifteen years are backed by political science: it's basically a social club that dabbles in electoral politics, and they only care about people like me when it's election season and they need money.

Quick reminder that if you see a headline from a source you’ve never heard of that isn’t being reported by anyone else, you really should do some due diligence before spreading it around as fact. There’s enough misinformation floating around already; no need to add more.

i feel like things are happening that millions of people are clueless about and that are so outrageous, so unbelievable that if i tell anyone, they will think i am being hyperbolic and crazy

In his proclamation of Black History Month, the President names five historical figures who should inspire us all: 1. Frederick Douglass 2. Harriet Tubman 3. Thomas Sowell 4. Justice Clarence Thomas 5. Tiger Woods www.whitehouse.gov/uncategorize...

The explanatory power of this thread.

It's actually theft of taxpayers money when websites go dark. We paid for that data

If it were legal to fire you, they wouldn't put so much effort into getting you to resign voluntarily.

This one's a little too real...

This paragraph caught my attention: '"A decision to take summer water from local farmers and dump it out of these reservoirs shows a complete lack of understanding of how the system works and sets a very dangerous precedent," said Dan Vink, a longtime Tulare County water manager [...]'

i have written about this before but i have become extremely civic republican virtue pilled as a result of all of this. democracy will not work without an active effort to cultivate virtue among ordinary people!

I'm sure this isn't far off:

Dear the Media, When something bad happens in an area under the executive branch's purview, and the White House goes "uh... a Black or gay person must've done it," you do not need to accept that. You're allowed to follow up in pursuit of the factual reason, not the bigoted excuse. Love, The public

If the FAA director got fired over a business beef AND there was an air traffic controller hiring freeze despite huge shortages AND a chaotic blitz to hollow out federal bureaucracy, and then within a week the first American airliner crashes in 16 years, you would be insane not to talk about it all.

The horrific DC midair collision overnight crystallized for me several thoughts about how the first days and weeks of Trump II are unfolding—and, why for instance, you need qualified people on Day One and why government works ... until it doesn't. www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/five-short...

"Trump appointed a road rules cast member to be in charge of airline safety and this is the result" that's all true and a one-sentence narrative that is completely damning to the ears of someone who isn't paying much attention to politics. Take the layup.

Yes, this administration is dangerous and cruel, but they are also shockingly dim and incompetent. Opportunities are everywhere. Make everything as hard as possible. Resist every demand. Refuse entry without a warrant. Don’t take the buyout. Their problem solving skills are 📉

Watching these red states attack federal funding—apparently not realizing that most of their states are broke and would completely collapse without it—will always be hilarious to me. “Give it all back to the states!” Sit down, Cletus. Your state can’t buy sandwiches for kids.

Whether they like it or not, the history of the Pentagon and the broader military history of the United States IS a DEI story. 🗃️ apnews.com/article/trum...

Your regular reminder that the first known clinic to offer gender-affirming surgeries was … destroyed by Nazis. In 1933. (Magnus Hirschfeld’s Institut für Sexualwissenschaft.) They always come for trans people first.
