1/4. On the White House’s theory, if they abduct you, get you on a helicopter, get to international waters, shoot you in the head, and drop your corpse into the ocean, that is legal, because it is the conduct of foreign affairs.

Please, please do not use an LLM to try and diagnose what is wrong with you. They are not good doctors. They are not even bad doctors. They are not doctors of any kind.

Question - does 2 have to be delivered or can I just make it appear whenever, wherever, and in whatever quantity I want? Knowing me and my general proclivities, I'd go for 3 provided that I can decide when it happens, where I teleport to, etc.

Certainly worth repeating in the times we are in..

They are. So were the "internment camps" for Japanese Americans during WW2 and reservations for Natives (the fact that we eventually made them into homes does not change this fact)

Seems like a good day to remind everyone that Auschwitz — a complex of over 40 concentration and extermination camps — was not located in Nazi Germany either.

Hire Chris. Do it!

One of hundreds of people abducted by ICE and sold to slavery in El Salvador was a 19 year old with no criminal record in the US or Venezuela and no tattoos of any kind. An ICE kidnapper who grabbed him outside his house said, "He's not the one." The other said, "Take him anyway." So they did.

LLMs are not going to do away with programming. I keep saying this, but the hype and panic are immense They: Produce incorrect code Produce insecure code Produce largely unmaintainable code Use massive amounts of power and water Extended use makes you less able to reason (literally papers on this)

It's going to cost far far more than $100 billion. Probably at least an order of magnitude more

Sad, infuriating and true

clusterduck

The number of amazingly athletic people I know who have almost died from viral infections (and in some cases becoming permanently disabled as a result) would amaze you...

Very very tiny Oatheards...

omg lol

Politics is just the way we make society together. Whenever someone says "I am apolitical" I hear "I am not vested in the shared project of making society" and I have to wonder why.

If there's no due process, there's no opportunity to contest whether you're a citizen or not. No due process for some means no due process for anyone.

As someone who is 6' or 6'1" and was 230 when I was training daily, let me say the following for the record: Bullshit

This may sound weird, but I think one of the most effective things that a lot of us can do right now is ridicule the people in this administration and their toadies - especially to their face. They're think skinned and are begging for approval.

Studies have shown something like 40% of LLM generated code has security issues in it just because it's recycling crap code from github and other places. This, however, is brilliantly evil. I don't condone this kind of thing, but I kind of have to applaud the ingenuity...

Looking on marketplace is sometimes hilarious. "Vintage AOL floppy disc (v 1.1)" $50 🤣🤣🤣

On a recent flight my seatmates learned I was a writer and asked my opinion on AI. They didn't understand genAI is based on work stolen from authors, and they DEFINITELY didn't know about the energy costs. Both shocked them. People just don't know.

gen ai freezes all progress, creativity, and new thinking in place by recycling what has been, disallowing would could be. and what group of people might be motivated by that i wonder

Yet more reasons the entire administration needs to be removed and placed in prison

this year is going good

I'm not kidding, a lot of us are just sitting here waiting hour by hour for when, if, they decide to provide proof of life

I was thinking about this Joe and Tracy anecdote from the supply chain crisis on gummy bears. Things are probably going to get really weird in a few weeks in unexpected ways:

Called my congressman who voted for the SAVE act. Me: What documents will I need to vote if this passes? Staffer: a DL and birth certificate. Me: The documents don’t match Staffer: Then a marriage certificate. Me: Will my husband need the marriage certificate too? Staffer: No Me: See the problem?
