NB: I did not attend the Berlinale this year. This interview was organised independently of the festival and conducted remotely. :)

āThe Goonies in Spaceā is a great logline for a Star Wars show, even if the familiarity of At Attin as a planet (with its manicured lawns, bike-riding pre-teens and boring high schools) feels like a step too close to mass appeal, when the franchiseās greatest assets are forever its weirdest. 9/17

LIFFF was more of a success in its first edition than we could have dreamedā bolstered by a truly fantastic feature film lineup, a Q&A for every film, and the generous support of the London film scene, the filmmakers showcased, our wonderful juries, and press outlets

I met Kanako Fujita in Udine, and we began discussing the London International Fantastic Film Festival.
LIFFF launched in November with our Opening Night Gala for THE KILLER GOLDFISH, with director Yukihiko Tsutsumi, producer Takeshi Moriya, and lead actress Erika Oka in attendance for a Q&A!

Film festivals! I attended them, participated in workshops at them, and even organised one.
Here's a nice photo of the Campus cohort at Far East Film Festival in Udine:

Speaking of the BFI, Emily Jisoo Bowles and I teamed up to interview the programmers of BFI Southbank's big new Korean cinema season, a conversation that turned into a fruitful and thoughtful roundtable: www.easternkicks.com/features/you...

Another special film in 2024 that has permanent residence in my heart is SUPER HAPPY FOREVER.
I spoke with writer-director Kohei Igarashi for @screenanarchy.bsky.social as the film took its first steps on the festival circuit in the Autumn: screenanarchy.com/2024/10/vanc...
