It does seem weird that there isn't even a Styrofoam panel between the box and the device. But also, why are they stapling receipts directly to the products?

This reads like, "You're not doing it right unless you're absolutely miserable like me."

The movie starred well-known actors, it was based on an IP that's massively popular with both kids and adults, and it was heavily advertised across multiple platforms. The more shocking thing would have been if it'd failed, despite all that.

This cretin has clearly never had a day in his life where he had to do his own shopping.

Where I feel like this whole thing broke down was when the supposed "checks and balances" realized they could accomplish their goals by collusion. When the legislature and the courts are bought by the party in charge, there is no limit on the president's power.

Right now, the twin cheeks of the US and Russia are slapping together against the Ukrainian people. The EU must reach in and spread them apart.

Wouldn't surprise me if folks were briefed ahead of time that certain things were coming down the pipeline. Or they had these changes prepped and ready, kind of like a Trigger Law, and they just needed the go-ahead to implement them.

He means "shoot" as in "fire them like a gun." He's basically arguing that morals and ideals are worthless in world politics compared to the use of force. Swell guy.

Reading through this, my favorite proposal is to use nukes to create a Nicaraguan waterway they dubbed, I kid you not, The Pan-Atomic Canal.

Historian of race and religion here. We are out here researching, analyzing, writing. We’re happy to talk to any journalists to expose this corrupt version of faith. JemarTisby.Substack.com

It's no secret that the armed forces have problems with recruiting as it is. Now slash the recruiting pool to a fraction of what it currently is, and what do you get?

Man, so histrionic. Just say, "A competitor made a cheaper product, and we could go out of business." Extinction-level event... What a bunch of dorks.

I think if it were up to Donald, he'd just be going to rallies constantly where everyone cheers him day and night. The guy loves attention to an insatiable degree.

What's the difference between a post and a pole?

one of the things i hate most about "originalism" as a supposed methodology is that the practice of it rests on the idea that it takes the specialized knowledge of a special elite to be able to understand the plain language of the constitution.

That could be quite an effective way to ruin people's careers. Just give them the "prestigious" position of pursuing objectives that have a snowball's chance of succeeding.

Weird how all these multibillion-dollar companies run by overpaid MBAs don't seem to know a whit about project management.

Man, this sounds desperate.

reminds me of an essay i know in argument theory about the "epistemological filibuster" which is often used to discuss how "we need more evidence" arguments are used to kick the can down the road and prevent more action on various technical questions...this is weirdly that but with "inventing a guy"

it is, effectively, a view that nothing should be done to solve any problem if there might be a trade-off somewhere for someone who you could code as “marginalized.” it is just anti-government conservatism with a different aesthetic!

It's a very zero-sum mindset where if anything happens to benefit one side, it must mean that the other side is losing something. It's apparently inconceivable that a system could possibly be beneficial for everyone.

No kidding. They just made these films to fill pews, and boy does it show. If I wanted an actual moral message, I'd get more out of watching Groundhog Day.

Britain would have been fine with it if they'd boiled Boston Harbor in a kettle first.

In other words, they don't know anything, but they can't admit that to the rich dudes who are breathing down their necks, so they're making up excuses.

There should be more amateur cooking holidays, like a Gordon Ramsey day where every family is expected to prepare a festive holiday risotto.

Indeed. Treating Republicans like a howling mob, lacking any capacity to make choices, also excuses them from culpability for the things that they do. If they're the unenlightened masses, then surely they "just don't know better." Except they aren't. They know exactly what they're doing.

Hopefully, these things take off instead of being dismissed for their dorky appearance. I'm still salty about Google Glass.

Indeed they did, and that's what I'm saying. Obama gave people a goal and a higher aspiration to strive for. The messaging of his campaign was high and dramatic, and it really ended up paying off.

And when the Democrats offered people the moon (Obama's slogans of Hope and Change), they ended up winning big. It seems phony, but folks want to have larger-than-life heroes. They want to be told that great things are possible and we can accomplish them. Reality is kind of a downer in comparison.

Every evil overlord needs a simpering underling to kick around. Just hope that it doesn't end up like Saruman and Wormtongue.

I feel ya, man. I've been planning on doing something for the last year or so, but getting distracted for various reasons. My current procrastination tool, for instance, is Vampire Survivors.

Mhm. Folks usually just think of direct/indirect pronouns like "he," "they," "me," etc, but interrogatives like "what" and "whom" are also considered pronouns, since they're substitutions for persons and things.
