Unfortunately I think we're well-past the stage where hearkening back to the comic origins of new comics-based movies will have any effective significance. At least in the MCU it wouldn't fit at all. I could see it working for the next Battinson, though...

This really puts words to a feeling I've been struggling to express for a while. I don't know enough about the modern animation process to say, but I get the impression this is the result of rigging and tweening being used in place of frame-by-frame animation.
