So it took until the years after the reunification that the Germans got to know the whole truth. Most „real“ Nazis were dead at this time but their ideology is still present.
About a third or more of the population supports xenophobic parties and wish for a strong leader. 🤮🖕

Esst Germany was under control of Sovietunion. They did not have such debates. The official saying was that all the nazis were in West Germany or convicted after the war. But of course they also used the knowledge of the Germans that were involved in the nazi regime to run their dictatorship. 3/x

In the late 1960s the West German youth started asking their parents how they were involved. This led to many discussions in families and protests in society.

After WWII there was a short time of denazification incl. the Nuremberg trials. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subsequ...
But with the beginning of cold war the allies needed countries where administration & secret services worked well, so East (less) and West (mostly) Germany forgot about war crimes.
