There’s more to palaeontology than digging up dinosaurs on the desert but watching documentaries make you feel like that’s all there is…but a lot of those insights discussed in those shows out in the field were gained in the lab or on computers… #dinosaurs #Palaeontology

The problem with all the "Trump is going to start World War 3" and "Trump is going to draft your sons" lines is that when it doesn't happen (it was never going to happen) Trump now looks like a diplomatic genius for avoiding it to people who don't know how any of this stuff works.

So the US told Iran about Fordow ahead of time so it could pretend to destroy its nuclear program, and Iran told the US about Al-Udeid ahead of time so it could pretend to attack US forces

Trump - Iran results: - Iran walks away with enriched uranium - Iran no longer has to report its nuclear activities to international watchdogs - established anti-regime networks outed - Iran closer to Russia & China - lost infrastructure to be modernized - enrichment to resume

The climate and biodiversity costs to opening up roadless areas are astronomical. The roadless rule protects over half of Tongass National Forest, which is home to over 400 species of wildlife and stores more than 10% of the carbon accumulated by all national forests across the US.

A deaf and mute Mongolian man seeking asylum has spent more than 80 days at an ICE facility. During that time, he has not had an opportunity to see a judge or communicate with anyone who understands Mongolian Sign Language, according to his sister and lawyer.

A national disgrace, a truly monumental sin

I just want to put this here for posterity to show that this does, in fact, also happen to Republicans

Forest Service plans to repeal rule that has blocked logging, mining in parts of Alaska and the West, reports James Brooks, @alaska.bsky.social, of @alaskabeacon.com: alaskabeacon.com/2025/06/23/f...

Dem messaging around the budget bill should be extremely simple: The Republicans want to sell our public lands to pay for bombs and secret police

The visuals are obvious. Which do you want to pay for?

My response to the GOP’s efforts to sell public lands as Trump Interior Secretary Doug Burgum arrives in New Mexico.

There are way too many things to be upset about these days, but I believe the destruction of public lands should be near the top of the list: www.washingtonpost.com/climate-envi...

Gov. Greg Abbott vetoed a budget line item late Sunday that would have brought in an estimated $450 million in federal dollars to fund a summer food aid program for low-income children.

Refugees in Kenya have died at food distribution centers, officials noted, including a pregnant woman crushed to death during a stampede. Aid workers said they expected more people to get hurt “as vulnerable households become increasingly desperate.”

ICE has imprisoned the wife of a Marine veteran who was still breastfeeding a 3-month-old baby because her *mother* failed to attend a hearing in 2018 apnews.com/article/ice-...

I am disappointed by the coverage..

It is worth reminding every American today that the people who hid Anne Frank were outlaws. The people who sent her to die in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp were law-abiding citizens.

"The federal agency tasked with helping military family members gain legal status now refers them for deportation, government memos show." apnews.com/article/ice-...

Used up something like 70% of our big boy bunker busting bombs to not even fully destroy said facilities while missing the uranium just to end up in the exact same place we were a few days ago? Brilliant statesmanship

That’s because movement conservativism was far ahead of the curve in inventing endlessly affirming discursive spaces where believers could opt to have their views affirmed. Fox News and talk radio previewed the epistemological breakdown that the internet brought home to EVERYONE.

25 years after measles was officially declared eliminated from the U.S., a cluster of cases that began in West Texas expanded into one of the largest outbreaks in a generation, spreading through communities with declining vaccination rates as three people died and dozens were hospitalized.

I think this is Iran's attempt to be done with it. They gave warning and it was not a large attack, as it goes.

It’s not pro-war, it’s just pro-“easy” war hence why Ukraine is still in the fight of its life sending new mechanized brigades into battle with T-64’s and BMP-2s built in the 1990’s

Wild to think that everyone could be free and happy and their true selves and have a basic income and healthcare and have their needs understood and met by society and not be displaced or killed and instead we’re choosing this

This is widely, radically, insanely unconstitutional. It’s an and zone dance over any reasonable conception of free speech.

A deep sea scientist once told me "every time we throw a bucket down there we find something new." This week's bucket discovery are methane-eating sea spiders! This new species lives near #deepsea methane seeps, farms methane on their bodies, then eats its. Insane! 🕷️ www.pnas.org/doi/full/10....

They don't know what "peace through strength" means or where it came from. They don't know what "deterrence" means. They don't understand any of this stuff. We live in Idiocracy.

Is it good when the praetorians don't trust the civilian head of the military enough that they plan diversions?

www.cbsnews.com/news/ice-det... What is the purpose of law? It is to seek justice. Imperfect justice, since we are imperfect human beings. But that is its purpose. The purpose of any legal system in a free and democratic country must be justice, not oppression. An overly harsh or mechanical

think Ganz is right here: "The politics of national despair needs figures like Cuomo to become the default setting of American politics. Then figures like Trump can present themselves as alternatives. They represent almost identical brands of sleaze and corruption."
