My grandfather would tell stories of the hell he survived landing at D-Day and fighting all the way to Berlin, and how knowing what they were fighting for back home kept him going. At least he and so many others like him didn't live to see how we squandered their sacrifices. Heartbroken.

He speaks for me. After 35 years of active duty service in the Air Force the GOP nominated Donald Trump for POTUS. At that point I had to face the reality that a large portion of the country I'd been serving for all those years, no longer represented my beliefs. What was it all for?

Canadian here, truly unbelievable how far America has fallen! This veteran and so many before him have given their lives and health to defend a country governed by two draft dodgers. Veterans from other countries, Canada included fought shoulder to shoulder with these men as allies. 😠🇨🇦🇺🇦

Which is what baffles me (and most people around the world I suppose): The cretin showed very obviously he is a fool previously in 2016-2020, displayed no improvement in the run up to 2024, yet people still voted for him? And apparently there's nothing that says a criminal can't hold office? 🤯

Yep. You’re correct. Many people are about to learn a very painful lesson. Trump told us and showed us who and what he is, yet a narrow plurality of the Americans who bothered to vote elected him.

I cannot imagine all the veterans and federal employees that feel completely abandoned by our country. Years of service and dedication ended in a flash by a billionaire and his minions.

This is eloquently put. I am a Vietnam combat veteran. I believed then that I fought for our freedoms. I fought so that people could read what they want to read, say what they want to say, protest the country's policies if they believed they were wrong. Where is that country now?
