“Trump was elected on the economy and they now see the economy to be in jeopardy.” And he's instead screwing the very base of US economic strength, a global economy. Corporate America dumber than we could possibly think #tradewar www.ft.com/content/a7c9....

Someone think Trump is a Russian agent. Now it is possible to think is also a Chinese agent. The majority might still think he's just got limited cognitive capabilities. #trumptrade www.ft.com/content/ba1c...

I was invited to speak about the upcoming Trump era and share some lessons and optimism. I declined politely. After more than 25 years of researching the far right, I have no more (new) lessons and optimism to share.

How far the institutions of liberal democracy will survive? Many of Trump’s henchmen, as well as Trump himself, will fear retribution for the “retribution” they seek to inflict. This gives them a huge incentive to rig the electoral rules of the game" www.ft.com/content/49de...

The floods this time: in the Mediterranean, climate change is already here Deadly floods have wreaked havoc from Spain to the Balkans and Morocco to Libya, with 200+ people killed in Valencia after 5x the month’s ordinary rain fell in one week. https://buff.ly/4gZGmja

As populist radical right parties (PRRPs) become more common and influential governing parties, they develop broader and deeper programs. And their programs are more ideologically coherent than is often assumed or asserted. See, for instance, the education policies of FPÖ (and other PRRPs). 👇

It’s time for Europe to take Musk's advice and use the full force of its regulatory toolbox to curtail the excesses of X. At this stage no EU country would grant Musk even a local radio broadcast license. Enforce the #DSA !! #Musk #Europe #disinformation www.euractiv.com/section/poli...

Our hearts go out to Los Angeles. Another terrible fire continues to spread. Images are circulating and here is one showing the area overlapping NY and London, too. Anthropecene also goes with pyrocene Don't look up, everything's fine 😱

Quote from the Draghi Report. I strongly recommend this book: www.wiley.com/en-sg/The+15... #urbanism

@carlosmorenofr.bsky.social I have loved your book 15-Minutes City and I'm creating a presentation for my classes out of it. However, one suggestion: for conceptual clarity, chrono-urbanism and chronotopia should be as clearly defined as you do for topophilia. Vive la ville d'un quarte d'heure!

Opinion: In form and function, tone and inbuilt incentives, the emerging media landscape of 2024 is quite different from that of 2014, let alone 2004 or 1994. These shifts have significant consequences, some of which we are only beginning to appreciate. www.ft.com/content/2262...

This is probably the most important story of year in the energy transition. ~600 gigawatts of new solar added to world grids today. That will produce ~1,000 terawatt-hours of clean electricity, or ~25% of all US electricity use or 2/3 of India's. In one year! Simply massive & it's accelerating. 🔌💡

The growth of global coal use has downshifted to a much slower rate, but it's still not yet peaked, according to new IEA data reported by @axios.com. www.axios.com/2024/12/18/c... Crucially growth in China has stalled, US/EU continue decline, but India & ASEAN (eg Indonesia) coal use still grows. 🔌💡

Today, the Biden Admin announced a new goal to cut US greenhouse gases 61-66% below peak levels by 2035. The current target is 50-52% by 2030. Based on several modeling efforts, including our REPEAT Project, the USA is on track to ~40-55% below peak by 2035, before Trump starts dismantling things.🔌💡

So, what do you think is going to happen? The rest of the world will gradually transition to Chinese-made self-driving E.V.s, “and America will become the new Cuba — the place where you visit to see old gas-guzzling cars that you drive yourself,” www.nytimes.com/2024/12/17/o... #geoeconomics

Every year I do a big presentation on decarbonization. One trend I'm unpacking insofar as possible: movement in ESG roles, capital, and strategy. A preview: growth in ESG roles in NYC. Quite the spike in 2021...and now back to almost no growth. www.nathanielbullard.com/presentations

@eudiplomacy.bsky.social How comes that EUvsDisinfo is still not available on Bluesky? It seems the most obvious place to be, imho. Please, make it land on this platform ASAP.
