Dang, I guess that makes two of us then! I'm also down today. Hope you're better soon!

...and THEN posted it. 😉 Jk, journaling is crucial. Well done!

Yeah that is true, vacation recovery is real. I wish I was more like you! Usually it takes several days after I return before I feel like fully digging back into work again.

Thank you! I'm happy to be back to building, though I am struggling to get out of vacation mode. 😅

Agree completely. Feels like a lot of public builders only know how to look for users within this space. I think that winds up being very limiting!

It's true! To be fair, I didn't do much manual promotion, just a few posts and some ads, just to test. I'm gonna leverage the things I learn in Breakthrough Copywriting to write some better content after I return from vacation.

I hope you all have an amazing week! Build lots, make progress, get better, and we'll catch up when I return!

I go on vacation tonight (we're leaving basically middle of the night), and I'm just gonna put all this down for like 8 days. I might do a bit of engagement while I'm laying around, but that's it. Gonna take the time to hone my marketing skills while I'm gone.

Thank you 🙏

Appreciate that 🙏 It did go well! And I'm gonna take it as a signal to just relax and enjoy the rest of the weekend.

That's helpful, thanks. I didn't bother to compress any of my images bc I felt like they weren't too big and would just get cached. Now I'm realizing it's a lot of up-front load.

I know lots of people like Plausible Analytics since you can self-host. plausible.io

Do you have opinions on what a good initial size is? I can scale the image to whatever I want, but concerned about it appearing compressed if the resolution is too high.

Much appreciated 🙏 I'll keep an eye on things in the next couple days, but I'm leaving on Tuesday, and I've got quite a lot going on between now and then, so not sure I'll have a ton of time to make more changes. Worst case I'll just revisit when I get back! My app isn't going anywhere.

We'll see! I didn't notice, because my internet is speedy enough that it basically loads instantly for me. But it seems like that was not the case for several people, so I hope this does help!

Have you had difficulty with copycats in the past? Personally I don't care so much if people want to copy my ideas. I feel like my execution and personality will distinguish the two. But I get that it's something people are often concerned about.

It definitely feels fuzzy to me! But then John Caples wrote Tested Advertising Methods, which basically asserts that there IS a right and wrong way to market, and it seems like many of the best copywriters agree. I'm still trying to learn the right way.

Wow congrats! Excellent growth. Keep it up!

I haven't put it on paper yet! I am waiting until I get back from vacation in a couple of weeks before starting on it. Right now it just lives in my head.

What do you think is the downside to people seeing what you are working on early?
comment in response to post
Couldn't agree more. I can write code all day. But creating something that actually makes sense for another person to use? It feels impossible sometimes.

Personally I prefer the look of this one. It looks cleaner and the buttons take up less real estate.

Same 🖐️ Been doing marketing the past couple of weeks, and it's been a humbling experience. Definitely an area I don't feel as confident in as, say, coding something.

Totally agree. I hadn't worked with the API in a few years so I wasn't aware of the price increase, until I tried to build X integration into something I built recently. $200/month is just stupid. I will just never integrate with it again, sorry X users.

I hope so! 😅 I'll be turning on the paywalling right before I leave for vacation, so my hope is to make my first dollar online while I'm kicking back and relaxing.

Better late than never!

😂 I'm super kidding, I'm actually really protective of my evenings and weekends, unless I plan to be working ahead of time. But sometimes marketing does feel like such an empty activity, and the line between it and straight up wasting your time is fuzzy 🤔
comment in response to post
Absolutely, like anything you learn, consistency and sticking with it are the keys, the ease just comes with practice.

I feel that 😂 "Marketing" is often what I'm doing on my phone in the middle of the evening when we're supposed to be hanging out 😅

Totally agree. I do have an MVP in mind that I want to launch with. The idea would be to try to crowdfund it as I'm building it, with the MVP being the alpha release. However it will take time to even get there, and it would prob be years before it becomes profitable. But I wanna do it so bad!

I tried one late last year, but found it cumbersome and didn't stick with it. I'll look into it though. Any suggestions?

Sometimes the obvious is worth stating. 😅 But for real, I'm not gonna work on this vacation. It's kinda my farewell trip to my kiddo before she moves away to college at the end of the summer. 😓
comment in response to post
Yeah I agree with this approach. I won't do any coding at all this week, only marketing. It hasn't felt like I'm making a ton of progress, but ig I'm learning and that's really what I'm here for!
comment in response to post
That will be my week this week! I really want to start on my next project, but I have to make marketing my last one a priority for now.

I haven't worked on it in about 8 months now, pretty much since I realized I didn't have the income to sustain building a giant music platform that prob wouldn't be profitable for several years. But I think about revisiting it all the time. It's def my passion project.
