@GossiTheDog "The cat turd army" seems way too long to me. How about "the turds" for short?

@light Depends on your definition of "safe". Git keeps a complete history of all changes. If you start a new branch before a change, you can give the keyboard to a monkey and it most likely won't be able to cause irreparable logical damage. The problem occurs only if you merge a faulty branch […]

I'll post a reminder one week before the lecture and again one day before it.

Short description of the lecture: Ransomware has become a global problem that is affecting businesses worldwide and is costing billions of dollars in damages. In an attempt to stem the profitability of ransomware for the criminals, some governments are considering the legal prohibition of the […]

We'll try to record the lecture and make it available later - but for now there is no concrete information on this subject, so no promises. You'll be able to join the Zoom meeting via the following link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/88007240276?pwd=6Rq0FnCVdvIxworLPoStOME3Qtb2hq.1

That said, I have no real hope for peace. Ukraine cannot accept most of Russia's demands and Russia cannot give up on them. It's an impasse. The killing will, undoubtedly, continue, until Ukraine is destroyed or until we all go up in smoke in a nuclear holocaust. 😢

The real point of contention is the occupied territories. Expecting Russia to give up Crimea is unrealistic - it's their only warm-water naval base. Expecting Ukraine to renounce the remaining ones is also unrealistic. The *proper* thing to do is to give those territories (minus Crimea) […]

* Each sides forgives the damages caused by the other. This is kinda iffy but it is practical. The proper thing to do is to have each side pay reparations for the damage it has caused to the other and to help with the rebuilding - but given that the Ukrainian economy is in shambles, this is […]

* Absolute military neutrality. No participation in any military alliances or coalitions, no military activities by third parties on Ukrainian territories, no foreign military bases, units, or infrastructure. This is the main thing, isn't it. Russia believes that it is threatened by NATO. It is […]

* Legal prohibition of glorigication and propaganda of Nazism. Makes perfect sense - just about every European country has such laws. Besides, according to the Western media, "Ukrainian Nazis" is just Russian propaganda, so it shouldn't be a problem to prohibit legally the activities of people […]

* Guarantees for the human rights and freedoms of the Russian-speaking population. Makes sense. We all support human rights for all humans, right? * Accepting the Russian language as a second official language in Ukraine. The Ukrainians might not like it but half of their population is […]

* International recognition of Crimea, Donbas, Zaporophie, and Hershon as part of Russia. Not only Ukraine won't agree to this, but how the fuck is this Ukraine's problem? "International" means that the international community must recognize them - regardless of what Ukraine can or is willing to […]

@GossiTheDog "Agent X"? LOL.

@bozhkov @Mnemosinee Well, let's agree to disagree on this subject. Do you agree with my main point - that the election of a conservative President will not result in significant changes to Poland's current policies?

@stux I have a couple of usability problems with it. First, I can't make it scale the image of the remote desktop it is displaying, so I need to scroll the window, in order to reach various parts of that desktop. Yes, I've tried playing with the Display options - to no avail. Second, the […]

@stux This warning has been there for a long time. It was already there when I started using this software (basically when TeamViewer became unusable).

@Mnemosinee @bozhkov Sorry if that confused you. I'm an old-timer. "Crypto" for me means "cryptography" and always will. I used to be on the PGP International development team.

@bh I knew it!

@bozhkov I am indeed not very familiar with the various Polish parties but Tusk, if that's the same Tusk I'm thinking of, is a Brussels animal. He was some bigwig in the EU - and the EU is full of socialist policies...

@alamkara.bsky.social Even the reference you gave says that "In Europe and North America, the establishment of social liberalism (often called simply liberalism in the United States) became a key component in expanding the welfare state." Well, that's definitely left-wing in my book. Perhaps […]

@bozhkov Perhaps you're confusing Liberalism with Libertarianism (which the current Polish government most definitely isn't)? I'm thinking of this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberal_socialism "it has been pointed out that 'the goals of liberalism are not so different from those of the […]

@bozhkov "Liberal" and "New Left" sounds left-wing enough to me.

@GossiTheDog Given how much their privacy people did, I think that AIs would do orders of magnitude better, even if they do next to nothing.

@farbenstau No, I don't have a repeater. The laptop connects to the router directly (over WiFi, not via Ethernet). In fact, the router is just a couple of meters away from it, so no repeater is needed.

@GossiTheDog Or surprised that the computers are so broken.
