I've taken a big step back from political consumption, I think with the hope that distance will breed in me some broader perspective that I'll find comfort in. I regret to inform you all that so far this strategy hasn't been awfully successful.

And, just for the record, I do appreciate your content and quite enjoy the conversations you have with @timmiller.bsky.social. I just disagree with this take is all.

Are folks upset the NYT isn't hair-on-fire? If so, I think we're asking too much of news pages. For me, I want the journos and the news to deliver straight information from which I make judgments. I can and do look to people like you and the opinion sections for smart or thought provoking takes.

I'm seeing this critique quite bit, but I don't get it. I think Baker is explaining how those agencies thwarted Trump's efforts to do some bad things while saying that he is expressly trying to install folks who won't stand in his way, right?

This thread is great and illuminating for me. I'm sure back then, as a know it all law student, I dunked on her nomination. Reflecting on that is a little cringey. Yet its also empowering and comforting, to bask in the wisdom time and experience bring.

Sorry, I'm not following this critique. Doesn't the article explain the dangerous stuff those agencies headed off in the first term while explaining that Trump is expressly trying to install people that won't stand in his way this time?

Maybe call that bluff, let 'em hang themselves. Explain why its banana pants, vote no, but end of the day he gets to pick bad ppl if thats what the GOP controlled Senate wants. Save political capital to fight the bad things these yahoos actually do and lay it at Trump's feet when it happens.

hoping this is right, that the job is just too big for him to be effective
