And this morning the Shed is a Fabergé egg: a thing of delicate filigree and lapis glaze, containing worlds of invention and minuscule discovery...

Loved this. Captured the spirit of the book beautifully and adds depth so that it is its own joy. Everyone in the audience rapt. #BalletShoes

Found a book by one of our Stepping Into Stories authors at Upper Norwood Library yesterday and can’t wait to get started on it. Joyce Efia Harmer’s amazing talk during the schools part of the festival made How Far We’ve Come jump right off the shelf. #JustMyCupOfTea

Hello! Reposting a thread of starter packs to help anyone spending their Sunday trying to find UK children’s book people. Most are being updated so if you checked them before, you may find new additions. #kidlitUK These two are (mainly) UK children's authors go.bsky.app/GLnmxCv go.bsky.app/3hvsJPY

If you’ve not heard about this/ forgotten …the deadline is imminent. Please share widely and urge action- responding to this consultation for the creatives and writing to our MPs for rest of us!

URGENT 🚨 Our UK copyright is under threat. The MOST important thing we can do is encourage every author & artist we know to respond to the consultation itself - this post breaks it down so it's easy to do! Complete before 25th Feb! againstthebox.substack.com/p/time-to-ha... #kidlit #kidlituk

The basilica, dating back some 1,900 years, was found during excavations that took place as part of the demolition of a building in the heart of London.

Next Wednesday is National Tell a Fairy Tale Day. Keep your eyes peeled for a Big Bad Announcement about my next book. #KidLit #KidLitUK #FairyTale

Zen is my sunshine. Currently snoring gently.

#NewIllustrationOfTheDay by dyslexic author/illustrator Kate Rolfe from Wiggling Words, about a child overwhelmed by letters, all of which are handprinted in this book. From Two Hoots (Macmillan) on 20 February. @twohootsbooks.bsky.social

Happy #FamilyDay! We believe every family should be supported to make sharing books a regular part of daily life, helping children to enjoy the benefits of reading. Here's why shared reading has a vital role to play in early education and childcare 👇 www.booktrust.org.uk/news-and-fea...

Apologise for potentially boring you to tears, but for the first time in years have injured my non-hemi side from overdoing it. Sprained/strained my left ankle and am, even after resting it (ish) all week, in great deal of pain. For me disability is ordinarily about poor balance, coordination…

The latest Read for Empathy collection has been launched. As always, it's full of absolutely superb books, including graphic novels, poetry, picturebooks and non-fiction. The work @empathylabuk.bsky.social are doing is incredibly important. More information here: www.empathylab.uk/rfe

Happy New Year!

What a year! Bluesky opened its doors just last February. Since then, we opened federation, launched video, rolled out trending topics, and a whole lot more. Happy New Year, and here’s to a great year ahead! 🎉

I don't set goals very often. I tend to forget them a month later. But I have in mind a vague intention for the future: make weirder art. Don't hold back and try to make it palatable or marketable. See what I can get away with. Because those are the books that stick with me as a reader. #KidLitUK

New study finds that women born in the most sexist U.S. states experienced faster memory decline in later years compared to women born in the least sexist states. The difference was equivalent to nine years of cognitive aging.

LOVED this MG book from @lawrencepatrice.bsky.social Modern mystery of family secrets, told from 3 points of view. It's beautiful writing & I completely devoured it. The 3 voices are so strong and each is properly distinctive. I'm certain it will be on all the best lists next year! 👏👏🌟

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. Pudding Hat made swim, if not cozy, warmer!

I see they’re now naming Christmas desserts after dishwasher arguments.

Astronomy breakthrough! #JamesWebbTelescope spots the "Firefly Sparkle" galaxy, forming stars just 600M yrs after the Big Bang! With the mass of a young Milky Way & 2 nearby companions, this discovery reveals how galaxies assemble in the universe’s infancy. www.jameswebbdiscovery.com/discoveries/...

Someone struck a match against the night… Webb discerned distinct star clusters in the Firefly Sparkle galaxy, which existed 600 million years after the big bang - the first discovery of an actively forming galaxy as lightweight as the young Milky Way. https://t.co/cJenCOWLsc https://t.co/BWCarE

I will never, for the life of me, understand people who think that siloing information and capability in the hands of a single person is a good thing to do. Redundant knowledge and systems protect everyone and I document everything I do so anyone could pick it up if they needed to.

Libraries matter more than ever now! They embody a beautiful & brilliant idea that we must never stop defending. The idea that knowledge is free & belongs to EVERYONE. We all need to support our libraries & librarians - especially when people seek to ban books & free thinking. #libraries #books

We at SLG are proud to support this important initiative! Alongside CILIP, the Great School Libraries Campaign, SLA & ASCEL, we've contributed to a joint response to the DfE's Curriculum & Assessment Review, showcasing the vital role of school libraries and librarians. @cilip.bsky.social

This is a brilliant series from Katherine Rundell www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/...

I agree. A lot of parents tell their kids what to read. This never works. As a bookseller and a mother of three, I suggest showing kids every type of book and then allowing them to CHOOSE. Works like a charm. 😊

We've really enjoyed reading @sharnajackson.com article about 10 books to encourage reading - some brilliant choices 👍 What's your go to recommendation for encouraging children to sit and loose themselves in a book? www.theguardian.com/books/2024/n...

My tree. Desperately wanted a scented one this year. It’s not coming home yet as would look like a physical comedy sketch with pratfalls every which way if I carried it through the Crystal Palace triangle.

Happy Thanksgiving to my American friends and family and all who celebrate! Won’t need to eat till Saturday.
