Today is a Fossil Friday kinda day featuring this brachiopod in a rock in the Finger Lakes region of NY :)

If I burn out thinking about how overwhelming and futile existence feels in this moment, I’ll accomplish nothing. So instead, here I am focusing on my joy: Here’s a picture of a yellow-bellied sapsucker I saw yesterday while birding with @writerbynight.bsky.social!

A couple of hooded mergansers from a very short and chilly birding adventure with @writerbynight.bsky.social...

Photog friends, I can't use my neckstrap anymore, it's destroying my neck. I need recs. I'm not averse to looking at different neck straps if they're comfy and I was looking at peak design clips but I kinda want something that keeps my camera secured to my person cause of droppage trauma

This is a promise to myself that I'm going to go back to posting art and birds and plants and whatever brings me joy next week. This is a promise that I'm going to highlight joy and do whatever little I can. But right now, today, I'm going to give myself the grace to be overwhelmed and tired.

Chilly but awesome walk :) We also saw some ring neck ducks which was so exciting since I /just/ covered them in class yesterday

Did you know the Cornell Bird Lab lets you take one free course of your choice from their course library? I didn't! was looking for sci-art classes and found they have all kinds of classes from learning specific species to general birding, to art and photography if you need a positive outlet <3

Observational notes page from my first homework birding outing yesterday for ornithology! Had fun with the quick bird doodles to get down a couple of the defining features I saw, definitely want to do full pieces for a couple of these later!

One of the things I repotted the other day! This pot was made for me by @krebulator.bsky.social and is one of my favorite things, and I've been agonizing figuring out what to put in her I'd been propagating this P. xanadu and finally felt like it was ready for an upgrade. I'm super happy with her 💚

Sometimes you just need to repot or do maintenance on all 100-something+ plants in the house to make the brain buzzing quiet. I've been meaning to do this for a couple months though so hey, at least it got done and they're lovely. Far too dark for pictures right now so have a Hettie instead

A reprieve, for now Federal judge temporarily blocks Trump administration freeze on federal grants and loans apnews.com/article/dona...

It's done. I've got some gripes about it but that's 2 fully colored mini pieces in a week so pretty happy about that. It's been a good "I want to dissociate or doomscroll so let me do this instead" activity for the past week that's given me the time and space to feel and process. We learn, we grow

The process can't be trusted. Art practice accountability post, will probably finish tomorrow, building values is hard and I feel like I keep messing it up ahhhhhh I think I'm gonna start illustrating my own local plant guide based off guides and iNat observations, that's at least my cozy zone :)

Ok, here's today's "I'm learning trust the process wip™" for accountability :) Gonna try and finish it tomorrow but I'm super proud that I've been actually keeping on top of practicing even if I have a lot to work on. (I did spill coffee on it too...) Your turn @krebulator.bsky.social! ♡

A while back I asked folks why they’re joining Bluesky and the most common response I saw was, “I just want a good place to get my news” and, yall, no. Bad. GET YOUR NEWS FROM THE NEWS PBS Newshour is FREE FOR EVERYONE. youtu.be/PMOYN8JWdUk?...

Roses from the Frelinghuysen Arboretum while I was visiting my mom! They were beautiful but also it was December

It's a "drawing to study for paleontology while snuggling my baby cat, drinking a homemade latte, and watching my PWHL NY Sirens" kind of afternoon. We do what we can to move forward and keep the demons at bay <3 Today's art: some archaeocyathid fossils, excited to share it later!
