Every day that this horror continues, I think of Omar El Akkad's tweet: "One day, when it’s safe, when there’s no personal downside to calling a thing what it is, when it’s too late to hold anyone accountable, everyone will have always been against this."

cool to see Indiana get this moment at home. it's the epitome of a small market, flyover state, and it is the basketball capital of this country, it really is. every driveway has a hoop. everyone in the state knows the game.

thing about the Indiana Pacers is, they're going to the NBA Finals

sure does seem like the refs are favoring the knicks

The speed of this game is incredible so far. I'm exhausted just watching it.

the NBA wants the Knicks in the Finals for financial reasons. that's just facts. refs will lean Knicks. Pacers have to run, they have to somehow stay out of foul trouble, and they have to shoot the lights out. that's it.

‘Give me odorous at sunrise a garden of beautiful flowers where I can walk undisturbed.’ Today marks the birthday of American poet, essayist, and journalist Walt Whitman. Born May 31, 1819 in Huntington, New York. ‘

in june, the otherppl book club will be reading SO FAR GONE, the hotly anticipated new novel from @jesswalter.bsky.social, available from @harperbooks.bsky.social. Jess will be appearing on the podcast later this month. stay tuned!

What's happening in Gaza is a genocide. It is criminal and wicked and deeply wrong. The images of starving people, terrified children, dead and wounded children, should shock the conscience of us all. I'm going to keep posting about it until it ends. It must end.

‘The truth is... everything counts. Everything. Everything we do and everything we say. Everything helps or hurts; everything adds to or takes away from someone else.’ Today marks the birthday of American poet, novelist, & children’s writer Countee Cullen. Born May 30, 1903 in Baltimore, Maryland.

Musk should be asked about this in every interview he does now and forever. To ignore it is a dereliction of duty. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/30/o...

Pacers' energy is just off tonight.

The player Haliburon reminds me of the most is Magic Johnson. He’s not as big as Magic, or as strong. But he’s a better shooter & he’s every bit the leader and passer and clutch performer that Magic was. Same kind of charisma and emotional intelligence. Guys love playing w him. He’s just a winner.

the thing about the Indiana Pacers is that Tyrese Haliburton isn't a superstar and is the kind of overrated player who drops 30-point triple-doubles with zero turnovers in crucial playoff games

Great book, great author, great conversation ✈️

the key for the Pacers is always: keep running. if they run, they win. if they slow down, they don't.

‘Our journey is entirely imaginary. That is its strength.’ Today marks the birthday of French novelist, polemicist, and physician Louis-Ferdinand Céline. Born May 27, 1894 in Courbevoie, France.
