Well, vote for Lander and Mamdani. Order doesn't matter so much as either one would be great.

But looking at every situation and concluding "both sides are to blame" is *also* an ideology! This murder represents a clear-cut and common scenario: A right-winger with conservative Pickle-Brain commits violence against the left. Concluding that the left also bears responsibility is absurd.

In case this was not bad enough, Yglesias continued to highlight the negative influence of "The Groups". His example of a "bad incentive"? Democrats visiting Trump's gulag in El Salvador

The spending cuts mostly come from Medicaid ($344 billion over 10 years), food stamps and related programs ($295 billion) and the Affordable Care Act ($132 billion).

Judge: This is a really big deal. It is a big deal to lie to a court under oath. It is an extraordinarily big deal to do so when there are matters of national importance at stake. I take this extremely seriously. Considering having an evidentiary hearing and putting DHS officers on witness stand.

Judge: I will be clarifying my PI as to the minimum amount of time that must come between notice and deportation. If govt wants to take a position, you have until end of today. 24 hours is plainly insufficient. This was only 17. This was undeniably, obviously insufficient.

"The department's actions in this case are unquestionably violative of this court's order." Will leave for another day whether this is criminal contempt. "Based on what I have learned, I don't see how anybody could say these individuals had a meaningful opportunity to object."

Litigators filed an emergency request for a restraining order to halt the flight from taking off or, if it's already in the air, to turn it around. Citing the Supreme Court's decision on the Alien Enemies Act, they emphasize that people on the flight were denied due process.

By the facts alleged here, Ms. Srinivasan was not removable. She was lawfully present in F-1 status but her visa had been terminated. By contrast, Ms. Chung had been rendered removable, but she retained her lawful permanent resident status. So the entire basis for the criminal warrant was wrong.

TLDR: Trump is blocking Afghan allies who worked to support our troops from coming here as refugees from the Taliban, and instead granting refugee status for White Afrikaners, who he'll have flown here on a private jet on the taxpayer dime. Hard not to be furious about it, IMHO.

So therefore the court finds that she does not pose danger to community or present risk of flight. THE COURT ORDERS THE GOVERNMENT TO RELEASE OZTURK FROM CUSTODY IMMEDIATELY. "Ms. Ozturk is free to return to her home in Massachusetts."

FOR ALL OF THOSE REASONS, COURT FINDS THAT HER CONTINUED DETENTION CANNOT STAND. BAIL IS NECESSARY TO MAKE HABEAS REMEDY EFFECTIVE.

Again, court need not answer those questions...can be addressed when we deal with habeas hearing. But I do find, frankly, that these are very substantial 1A and due process violations. So then in Mapp we go to extraordinary circumstances

Judge: There is no evidence here absent the op-ed. That creates very significant substantial claim that 1st Amendment protected speech formed the basis for the detention Suggests the reason she was detained was her expression.

Slightly more seriously. It's crazy how the entire supposed constitutional theory of Trump 2.0 is that all power is vested in this single individual, down to every last tiny detail and whenever you ask him he's like "I have no idea; ask the lawyers"

Pillard, dissenting, notes the purpose of a stay pending appeal is to maintain the status quo. "This stay does the opposite, silencing Voice of America for the foreseeable future and eliminating Radio Free Asia and Middle East Broadcasting Networks’ ability to see this case through to the end."

A) None of these are higher ed examples! B) Let me suggest that people in civil society organizing around what they see as unjust war or an effort to attack their democracy is not, in fact, bad, and not comparable to people losing their shit because a trans person had a bud light
