Good thing for those mineralogy classes as I don’t think I would have been able to find many uranium minerals myself without those radiation detecting devices except for the fluorescent ones as I don’t know all the uranium minerals that exist and their properties.

Bummer, that would’ve been an easy way to sneak a radiation detector past their radar if it wasn’t for that alarm. Does that device have a setting to deactivate the alarm?

They got “fired” for playing with fire i.e. voting for Trump and now they are suffering the consequences, pun fully intended lol 😂 🔥

They were warned not to play with fire but they did so anyway and now look what happened: they got burned and thus must deal with the consequences lol 😂 🔥

They made up their beds now they got to lay in them, cry us a river lol 😂

I believe that most 405nm violet lasers use gallium nitride.
Pretty cool shining them through uranium glass objects watching the uranium turn the violet laser beam into a green one via fluorescence.

What’s that exactly, the high-energy 3.06 eV photons that are causing the uranium ions to fluoresce?

You can use some of them to do cool effects like this, no life endangerment required!

Stupid, just absolutely stupid! 🤦♂️
There are better and safer ways to use lasers such as using a violet laser to light up fluorescent uranium glass and minerals, writing on phosphorescent materials, etc.

And things are likely not going to be any better for you folks with Trump re-elected. Such a shame that Kamala didn’t win because at least partially because people didn’t want a female president; I got into a minor argument with someone over this matter so I’m aware that is part of the reason why.

How can anyone condone killing a fellow human being just because they’re transgender? That’s sadistic!

Quite a decent gamma dose coming from this thing!

Yeah, I’m not sure if those wimpy 277 eV photons would even penetrate the plastic of the container let alone our skin to be able to make it to our living cells to cause damage lol 😂

Oil thankfully!

Good, because I would’ve been one of those affected by the photos lol 😂

I couldn’t be there as I’m pretty squeamish at the sight of someone else’s blood even though strangely I’m absolutely fine with the sight of my own blood lol 😂

Does he think you’re weird for collecting things like that?
Don’t worry because I was seen as weird myself for keeping a discarded old ionizing-type smoke detector lol 😂

And it’s an abundant radioactive source which is a plus for me 👍

Clever lol 😂
Any element (stable or not) that naturally has at least one easily detectable primordial radioisotope is going to be one of my favorites ☢️

Oh, never mind; you meant the calibration feature lol 😂

They already did the update, I’m currently testing it out on potassium-40 lol

On behalf of my state of North Carolina I’d like to apologize for us as a state for voting that monster in even though individually I didn’t vote for that racist, fascist, narcissistic, transphobic, Capitol rioting inciting low-life 👿 👺 👹

After this recent election 🗳️ I definitely don’t see that happening anytime soon.

Simon does indeed have some nifty equipment that most of us nuclear nerds can only dream of lol 😂

What’s nifty about that video?

I know I am jealous plus I don’t live anywhere near any university lol 😂
comment in response to

I wouldn’t blame anyone for being so jealous like have you seen the HPGe gamma spectrometer that Simon uses, those peaks on that thing are absolutely pristine! I would love to work in a university that has equipment like what he uses lol
comment in response to

Simon also uses some equipment that completely blows our devices out of the water lol 😂
comment in response to

I’m not doubting if Simon is incorrect btw as he seems to be someone who’s quite knowledgeable in nuclear physics so I definitely don’t doubt anything he says lol
comment in response to

It must be advanced because I hear no such terms that Simon uses from any other person who does videos on similar topics like this. That’s exactly why I subscribed to that young fella lol 😂

I don’t think they sent me any notification like that I know I’m somewhere after that number 😂

I don’t know what number I am as I don’t typically pay attention to things like that lol 😂

My point is that him unfortunately ruining Twitter (now X) kind of helped this site out.

Blusky should thank Elon for driving away many users from former-Twitter with his questionable decisions.

I tried using a smoke detector, uranium and lutetium to do XRF spectroscopy myself lol 😂 🤣
