Folks, CALC (Critical Approaches to Librarianship Conference) tickets are on sale today and the programme is πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯ Massive congratulations to @patchedelbows.bsky.social and @michelleab.bsky.social for putting this together! sites.google.com/view/calccon... #critlib πŸ“š

Literally sitting in a darkened room because I can't be bothered doing anything. Up to and including turning a light on. Oh Sunday.

Perhaps you don’t understand, Makers Of Royal Match Game Ads, I care not if the Regent dies! Let him drown! Your pleas fall upon deaf ears! I AM A FREE MAN AND I WILL MATCH NOTHING TO SERVICE THE CROWN

I've had a few hard days with family things and came on Bluesky for *checks notes* a bit of distraction and found that Clarivate is screwing academic libs over even more than usual in an anticipated but still disappointingly corporate manner. Yes good plan very relaxing doomscroll well done me.

Don't really do valentine's but Disco Stu and I got married ten years ago tomorrow so that's pretty cool. It's been a heck of a year and I'm appreciating him more than ever just right at this moment. He's a luddite with almost negative social media presence but feels nice to tell the world anyway.

i can't stop watching this had no idea tortoises were so fast or so determined they're like cats, the minute you clean the cat boxes

Super long day where my alarm was set for 3.30am has started well, with Smallest waking me at 2am after approximately 2 hours broken sleep and she's only settling back down now. So. We begin!

Going on a day long trip to London tomorrow with my brother. We do hang out every month or so but it's been a looooong time since we've had an adventure just the two of us and I'm both excited and ready for it to be an Absolute Casserole.

Just made a coffee in the mug I use for tea. Had to swap over to a specific cup which was more correct for coffee.

Librarians aren't going to save us. Librarians aren't superheroes. They're just people trying to keep largely underfunded and overwhelmed public services going. Praise is nice; realistic expectations are better; material support is best.

From www.tumblr.com/presentlydea... - I miss you, lost friends. I hope the sun is shining on your face, wherever you are.

Taking a baby to a funeral today so this is going to be a wild grief and logistics rollercoaster. Her nap this morning has already been delayed and I'm wondering if this will send the day into a tailspin but WHO'S TO SAY, the tiny chaos goblin bends to nobody's will but her own.

Ramping up for my return to work and realising my year tending to Not Libraries has left me with some quite unpopular takes. I mentioned to a colleague that I liked that our academic lib had a fiction offering on Libby now. That was apparently not a popular opinion, because budgets. 😬

I stg sometimes I want to throttle this baby but also the way she smacks her lips while she looks around for her next bedtime amusement just makes me want to laugh till I cry.

The night time bit is the most cat thing I have ever seen.

Bought this marvellous handknit sweater vest on Vinted, supposedly for a four year old but I suspect it'll fit Wee Dude (6). Good news- a bargain and it's come to a loving home. Bad news - it was only Β£4 which is absolutely not respecting the value of beautiful work that went into it.

Realised at quarter to midnight that the replacement green bin collection is happening tomorrow and Tuesday to make up for Friday, when they didn't come due to the storm. I have not put the bins out so logic dictates that ours will be the first emptied on the whole route.

Going out for lunch and the group chat is full of "hows the weather, there are no trains" but the truth of the matter is I want out for the afternoon so am driving to Edinburgh and will go to the restaurant alone if it comes to it. Not much gets between me and a ramen bowl.

Suuuuper glad to be done with the pregnancy stage of my life and also very glad that post pregnancy hair regrowth is happening, but couldn't it just grow back already dyed and with the same texture as the existing hair?

This one day of storm closure reminds me very much of lockdown times. Our D&D session tonight has been cancelled and someone suggested meeting online... This was met with a barrage of rejection because although we'd like to see each other the consensus is we rule out Zoom for social purposes now!

Trying to write a thing to say at a friend's funeral in a few weeks and I just don't know if I've got the tone or the message or the content right AT ALL. Wish there was a crib sheet for this kind of thing. (No I don't really want to Google it, somehow it feels like that cheapens it.)

Cast off this brilliant little cardigan. Yes it still needs ends woven in, buttons sewn on and I might yet rip out the cuffs to make them tighter... BUT it is a wearable garment and Smallest loves it.

Have been extremely catty in my groupchats today, but karmic balance has been restored because my womb is revolting two weeks early and my teabag split in my cup, ruining my tea.

On my way into town for a Keeping In Touch meeting with work. In which they'll say "when are you coming back to work" and I'll say "what is work again?"

Poetry Foundation not fucking around with today's poem of the day www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/89897/...

Watching Beauty and the Beast with the kids and I'm not very familiar with it (I was not a Disney Princess kinda kid) but I feel like Phillipe the horse was the real hero of the piece. Where's HIS happily ever after?
