How to change a swastika that cant be removed

Fabulous new research re autism and learning (intellectual) disability. It's about assent/consent, and how to get it right for everyone. www.liebertpub.com/doi/epub/10.... Lots of thought, good checklists and ideas. This is so important, isn't it.

Possibly the best AAC post of all time: If you or your autistic person use AAC [alternative communication], don't forget to enable descriptions of personal boundaries—because everyone should be able to say "stop" and "F*** off". From Mel Baggs, RIP: ballastexistenz.wordpress.com/2012/06/25/c...

New paper in Autism in Adulthood led by Stephanie Petty, arising from our Inclusive Neurodiverse Campuses (INC) project. We reflect on actions that could remove barriers to employment (to a research position here) incorporating insights from both sides of the process. doi.org/10.1089/aut....

New research. A team tries to work out if self-identity as autistic is valid. www.nature.com/articles/s44... is the paper. I'll do a thread on some of their peculiar statements in it, and on the Broad Autism Phenotype Questionnaire (BAPQ) that they use to try to make a point. Here we go../

What is autism? Worth a quick run-through of the modern understanding of autism, since so many teams are still using the outdated DSM-5 descriptions from 2013. So many changes in the last 12 years. This is all from research studies. Thread. It's part of wider neurodivergence, a brain difference/

Congrats to @kmunday.bsky.social and all of us in autism community who helped to #StopSpectrum10K. Today the S10K team announced study's cancellation. New paper alert (and a bit of a must read) The Theory of Mind Hypothesis of Autism: A Critical Evaluation of the Status Quo Long, Catmur, & Bird (2025) doi.org/10.1037/rev0...

New paper: autistic ppl found stimming to be positive when not self-injurious nor stigmatized (latter led to masking). Most felt stimming helped their friendships w/ & connections to other autistics, in part through inferring others’ emotions from their stimming. journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...

Excited to share this 4th article from my dissertation, just published in Teachers College Record. The piece focuses on #autistic #communitycollege students & parental involvement dynamics during college transitions. Hope you find it enlightening; contact me if you seek a copy: bit.ly/4a6J1om

Slightly excited to find that nearly 400 papers (out of 8000 autism research papers) on PubMed mentioned autism *and* quality of life, last year. The graph shows the steep increase in the number of papers talking about quality of life (somehow). Getting there...

I got a peek into this book a few weeks ago; it does feel like one of those ground breaking moments in MH therapies. Looking foward to saying hi to people at the book launch if you’re there.

One interesting thing about Musk is that his very public behaviours are making it increasingly clear to more and more people that capitalism is the enemy of democracy, a truth that used to be more widely understood but which was suppressed during the cold war.

“For someone with increased perceptual capacity, tranquillity could lead to unpleasant rumination, and solitude could become imposed isolation. Instead of creating bland and featureless places, we must create places in which ongoing cycles of engagement and rest can be done well.” #AutRes 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Hurrah! Another fabulous book by Dr Luke Beardon. "Reasonable adjustments for autistic children" (Sheldon Press, 2024). This is the front cover. Always wise and practical advice from my old Tutor at Uni. [No I don't get commission or other benefits from promoting any good materials]

"Autistic people w/ intellectual disabilities shared experiences that are suggestive of increased capacity, similar to previous findings of increased capacity for autistic people without intellectual disabilities." Lights are too bright, the sounds are too loud, the fabrics too rough for ALL of us.

Anyone know of a list of anti-vaxxers to block? I’ve had to bring the hammer down on two shite blog posts in comments this week. Or is anyone wanting to create a honey-pot so we can group shh! their dodgy worldview into the void?

There's still time to register for @petewharmby.com's talk this Thursday evening from 7-8.30pm. Pete will be talking about Making an Autistic Living. As always, the talk is free and everyone is welcome. www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/making-an-...

It’s disheartening to see lots of white starter packs, including in #autism. As many people know, this contributes to underdiagnosis, stigma and isolation It would be really nice to elevate voices from the #BIPOC community and feel less alone ❤️ Would love to start my own pack - any suggestions?

Wonderful to meet with lovely colleagues and friends to celebrate our book. We ll hold a public hybrid big event in March 27th- stay tuned for more details. Today it was a mini celebration and thank you to wonderful crew. It was so brilliant to give a big hug to @lauramaycrane.bsky.social
