He has a business degree in crowmerce.

We should take steps to help American nutrition improve, which is why I support a living minimum wage, SNAP, well-funded school lunch programs, an end to food deserts, and serious antitrust actions against huge agriculture ologopolies.

I hate the bullshit talking point that trans people shouldn’t be in the military because tax dollars shouldn’t be used for their transition. Um, yes the fuck it should. All trans people deserve free and accessible gender affirming care because all people deserve access to free healthcare.

Glad to see the P&D hearing get some media attention and feature another great quote from @parkingreform.org’s @dpherriges.bsky.social “In this case, this is a regulation that we know is widespread and is indefensible on the basis of sound science or evidence.”

This is meant as comedy but I highly, HIGHLY recommend it to autistic MN transplants, especially if you come from the East Coast or another ask vs. guess culture. It clearly explains a lot of otherwise inscrutable behavior and will prevent both confusion and people getting mysteriously mad at you

I was out running in Columbia Heights this morning, a gridded first ring suburb of Minneapolis, and was intrigued to see quite a lot of duplexes scattered among single family homes. So, of course I got home and went to check out the zoning map and code.

Declining geographic mobility is threatening the American Dream — and it’s driven by policies that banned affordable housing choices and froze communities in time.

Actual research on Single Egress safety! Very exciting www.pewtrusts.org/en/research-...

Many US cities lost their ring of mid-rise apartment buildings in the mid 20th century, when highways and downtown expansion squeezed out the apartments. Normally as downtowns grew, the ring of apartments would grow outward as well, but until recently, it was blocked by zoning.

Minneapolis and St. Paul's nearest suburbs

may I offer you some aurora pics in these uncertain times

Spoiler: it was never about separating residents from noxious industry. It started in the US because a bunch of NIMBYs in NYC got mad a tower was being built in the 1900s.

Zoning in theory: we need land use regulation to keep homes away from sources of pollution. Zoning in practice: the only places you can build new housing are right next to the highways and high-traffic streets that are your city’s largest sources of pollution.

Congestion pricing is already speeding up buses and increasing ridership. Now we need new protected bus lanes to build on those gains and accommodate all those new riders!

In MnDOT's defense, selling urban interstates as an environmental benefit is going to require you to make some pretty zany arguments.

Not enough cancer risk on this section of map. Needs a freeway.

People underestimate the subtle roles gov workers play. How many small businesses are supported by one partner being a gov employee providing healthcare to entrepreneurs? How many coaches and scout leaders are gov workers? These jobs are so important to communities and families.

NEW STORY // Washington Senate Greenlights Elevator Reform Aimed at Boosting Midrise Homebuilding www.theurbanist.org/2025/02/20/w...

By a 42-6 vote, the Washington Senate just approved a bill directing the state to adopt standards for passenger and freight elevators that are more reflective of global standards, including a specific requirement to allow smaller elevators in buildings with fewer than 25 units.

Increasing density statewide would help alleviate this city to city infighting.

Not sure I’ve ever seen a cross-municipality instance of NIMBYism (NIYBYism?) Pretty horrendous stuff from Champlin and Maple Grove

At Keller Williams Family Reunion, state of the housing market. #kwfr25

Excited to see the potential spots on 46th ave. People tend to speed to get on and off of the highway/35w, and i would love to see some actual reduction in speed here. Wish these were on the actual overpass tho.

“not a sprint, not a marathon, a relay” is the best way I’ve ever heard this phrased

Thank you Rep. Elkins for introducing HF 161! HF 161 would permit cities to implement a Land Value Tax (#LVT), including a split model where both the land value and the building value are considered. It was moved forward and "laid over" for inclusion in a #MNleg taxes bill. #LandValueTax

“Cutting off fundamental, curiosity-driven science is like eating the seed corn. We may have a little more to eat next winter but what will we plant so we and our children will have enough to get through the winters to come?” ― Carl Sagan, The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark

Legalize streetcar suburbs again. 🇺🇸

Big pro-homes news from the #MNleg house tax committee today as HF 161 moves MN one step closer to a #LandValueTax Watch here for the most exciting half hour of tax committee proceedings.

To my knowledge, here's the first study looking at how removing parking minimums impacts local stores (by an econ job market candidate from U Toronto). It finds that reducing parking requirements in Seattle led to more new firms, and increased existing firms' odds of staying open

I've taken a few community ed classes and they've been great! I highly recommend signing up.

Big win for my friend @holz-bau.bsky.social who is helping Seattle in more ways than most of us can possibly imagine

A lesson of 2021 is that council members should avoid attempts to take ownership of a Mayor Frey problem. Just stand back, gasp, say "oh my, wish we had a mayor who could do better." He benefits when you become the main character in stories about his fuckups.
