Watched Fried Green Tomatoes for the first time tonight and I’ve spent my whole life having no idea what the hell this movie was about I guess because the last thing I expected it to be was this delightful story about two lesbians in 1930s Alabama just gettin through it

flatliners fans vindicated

Each Baldwin brother represents a corner of the political grid

I like being at movie premieres where during the credits the costume designer or lighting guy will get a Stone Cold in 1998 level pop from the crowd. Those guys deserve it

Well, I did something fun and new tonight

Look at my Quarterback dawg. I feel sick

Upon the release of her excellent short, Don't Be Long, Little Bird, I sat down with director Reem Jubran. We spoke about the film, shooting a Palestine the West rarely sees and what she'd like to see more of from non-Palestinians. Read it here: bit.ly/3FXJGxG

I was at Film Forum a month early for a screening that I had the date wrong on, was looking down at my phone in disbelief and right as I mumbled "what the FUCK" to myself, someone asked if I had the time, I looked up and it was Susan Sarandon

Hell yeah

Excellent new short, Don't Be Long, Little Bird from director Reem Jubran is out today. Shot in the US + Palestine, it's a lovely journey of self-discovery and an often unseen depiction of a country by western media. So worth your time. 🇵🇸🇵🇸 Watch here: t.co/YyBMsVYJjV

Programmed my first section for Fandor today. When you sign up, you aren’t just getting great films, youre getting that personal touch from yours truly 💪

Reflection in a Dead Diamond: Forzani & Cattet are back with a Eurosleeze fever dream that seems to take place within the final synapse of Connery’s Bond in that brief moment between his departure and Lazenby uttering “this never happened to the other fella.” Fucking loved it.

There’s gotta be a Predator who sucks, right? Like a guy they sent Earth to hone his skills and got his ass kicked by the first tough guy he picked a fight with

This moment will live with me forever because he LIT UP when I connected all of his work through trains haha. It was really lovely.

Taking a break from all the Predator posting to sit back and congratulate Brandon on a truly stellar interview. Boyle seems incredibly enthusiastic and delightful to talk about both his and *the* process. I love Brandon's remarkable interview process. A real inspiration.

For Letterboxd, I had the distinct privilege of sitting down with Danny Boyle, a filmmaker whose work has meant more to me than almost anyone. We talked a lot about trains. You can watch in full in the link below:

De Niro told a cool story about how the reason he’s kept (then donated) so much of his onscreen wardrobe is that he was told while doing costume fittings for Godfather II, that the shoes he was trying on were Warren Beatty’s in Bonnie & Clyde and he didn’t think that was right

Man…

Been slammed with work and have been neglecting my Substack. In lieu of new posts for a bit, I'm going to periodically bring some stuff out from behind the paywall. First up, a super rewarding conversation with one of my favorite filmmakers, Andrew Ahn. open.substack.com/pub/brandons...

Awesome things happen to awesome people!! This is amazing news and Brandon will make sure deserving films and filmmakers are highlighted!!

After months of doing this and that, I’m extremely proud to say that today’s my first day as Programming Manager Consultant at Cineverse. My purview will be helping to curate the Fandor and Midnight Pulp labels. Very excited for this chapter.

April (Dea Kulumbegashvili): Absolutely flattened by this one. A pro-abortion drama that manifests the weight of the loneliness that comes from performing a thankless, traumatizing job into a withered husk creature, empty space and a cacophonous soundscape. Major.

Tried to rewatch Sunshine as I go through Boyle, threw my blu ray on and five minutes in it was immediately unusable because a glitch on the disc prevents you from turning off a picture-in-picture feature of the crew talking about the movie. So heads up if you own it I guess

I didn't see hide nor hair of Abott or Costello in that Frankenstein trailer. Looks like it'll be a PASS from me

Unfortunately turning into a cartoon wolf every time Holly Hunter is onscreen
