…and progressive Albertans desperately need allies. Our votes mean nothing in most risings, provincially and federally. We protest, and we and write to MLAs who don’t even have to pretend to care. Can we shift this discourse to amplifying the sane voices?

Reading through the whole thread I agree with your position overall, but as one of the “sensible” ones I can tell you the blanket “fuck Alberta” statements are demoralizing as hell sometimes….

Second, gender-essentialist tone. I can see a through-line (intended or not, I have no idea) between the chapter called “Gender Neutral with Urinals” to today’s militant TERFS and the UK bathroom ban.

First, bad info. Claim that “no country in the world” (p.79) has paid may leave between 7 mos - 1 year. False even in 2019. I’m a Canadian mom who enjoyed 12 mos maternity leave (each) for 2 kids born before 2010.

The headline here should really be “Smith pulls another stunt to appease UCP base”. Just another day in Alberta🙄. I’m really hoping that making it easier to recall MLAs ends up biting them in the butt though.

I voted today in Alberta and waited 45 minutes in line. Might as well have thrown it into the wind for all the good it will do in my riding but did it nonetheless. Curious to see what turnout is like where you are.
