Farage fawns before a hugely unpopular Donald Trump He helped inflict Brexit on us – and the majority of the population now knows that was a mistake Why doesn’t Keir Starmer fight him? Why does he give him a free pass? Piece from me open.substack.com/pub/nickcohe...

Saturn. Rising behind its giant icy moon Titan.

Seems like that's how it goes. And the alternative Gov't here in Australia is touting emulating DOGE if they get in...

Is there a coup, specifically an autocoup, occurring in the United States? With the unilateral and unconstitutional dismantling of key US agencies, it certainly looks that way. youtu.be/g2v2rY9AH6I

Funny thing about TMU... over 10yrs ago I was accused by a TMU admin of being a part of a medical conspiracy (with the usual antisemitic angles). Admin turned out to be a South African aficionado of ancient aliens/political cult figure, Michael Tellinger. TMU can get in the same bin as Elon.

Have recently been hearing people imply that HR is a force for progress of a left-leaning kind. Weird. www.abc.net.au/news/2024-12...

Hmm. Blocked by a whole 45 people I've never interacted with - so what? - and put on 7ish block lists for MAGAish sorts. It's like the people who run these lists were only just released from bunkers they were raised in, and haven't begun to question their rote-learned assumptions about politics.

With a few niche exceptions, I do have to say that the science content posted to Bluesky, and the community around it, seems in a better state than on Twitter. There's that.

35 Years, Forbes. And with only one member of the pictured line-up.

Since I've been blasted for not being a real humanist on here, I thought I may as well throw a cat among the pigeons. You know what else isn't humanist? Star Trek.

Academia has churned out some poorly reasoned, damaging twaddle, especially from the area of social inquiry. But am not surprised Gad Saad thinks an authoritarian purge is the solution. Democracy and an independent academia are Western traditions too. And clearly Dr Saad has his own bad ideas.

"If the world can tolerate the Taliban’s abuses, Iraq’s restrictive laws and the US restrictions on abortion access, it reveals the fragility of women’s and girls’ rights globally, and how easy it is to take them away." theconversation.com/how-womens-b...

Pre-order: Done. Just in time.

Am not actually part of the Twitter exodus. Yes it's a bot-addled dumpster fire. And I've been critical of Elon since b4 hyperloop. But recent developments notwithstanding, am just testing the water here while still tweeting there. Have seen *expected* nastiness here, so not sure where I'll land.

Thankfully the video has now been removed, but this is another headache facing legit original human-made journalism like ours that seeks to serve the public If it's not rando sites lifting text, or AI slightly altering the words, it's whole machine-made videos that are a detriment to our sources

It's been so long since I'd given up on Mailman on account of the plain text password issue, I didn't realize it'd been resolved almost a decade ago... feelin' old. lwn.net/Articles/638...

Just got here from Twitter (I still call it that). Have already been followed by a number of crypto/pr0n bots, so no difference there. There seems to be more weebs and furries here, which isn't my thing. While of a different ideological pole, what passes 4 freethought here seems similarly dismal.
