Oooo. I tell a lie. Turns out the admin was from New York and was just living in SA at the time, while also getting involved in South African politics. And shooting big guns.

Have seen "be kind" in an ethics of care context entrench sexism where the "when they act out, we must consider which of their needs isn't being met" schema was used to excuse bum-grabbing male patients. Have been curious/critical ever since. Will certainly purchase book when avail. in Australia.

They need large, slow, easy targets before graduating to the smaller, faster moving ones like school kids.

Par for the course for a lot on social media, but poor form for a science communicator. That kind of public statement from someone in that kind of role needs to be backed up.
It's unsettling that many have become comfortable with the kind of abrogation of responsibility on display here.

Hi Laura,
I think you may have tagged a different Julia in this post. I'm assuming you may have been looking for Julia Gillard's Bluesky account, which would be juliagillard.bsky.social?

Anyway... I don't want to foul up Benjamin's thread here. You have a nice day.

To be fair, it's only a simulation of what it's like to cop white phosphorus to the retina. It's not that bad.

Well, since you put it that way, I'd better follow your example and #BeKind.

An "anti-trans" disability activist once told me it doesn't take long for the TRAs on Twitter to start spouting ableism. It didn't take long for that to turn up on Bluesky either, I guess.
You do know what happened to "insane" and "dumb" people in Nazi Germany, right? Of course you don't...

So you're saying the "anti-trans" movement doesn't exist outside of Nazi Germany?
Somehow I suspect both "Nazis" and "Venn Diagrams" both fully fit within the circle of "Things Reallyreallyreal Doesn't Understand".

I haven't committed any egregious crimes (aside from those concerning grammar). I haven't even copped an expiation fee.
Personally I prefer the term "*$&*ed up" when it comes to my mistakes.
Haven't really thought about followers at this point, TBH.

I thought it was spelled "Grobelaar". *Narrows eyes*
Is that you, Eddie?

A little humility now and then is a great opportunity for learning. It's a pity some people seem intent on depriving themselves.
Oh well, at least he hasn't told anyone to "be nice"?

I remember subscribing to a block list, it being functional, then being handed over to new admins. I didn't check for a year or so, and then when I did, holy &*%! was there a lot of people on the list that didn't meet the criteria. Defo became a petty ideological grudge list.

Yeah. I've seen that. Was thinking about it again last night. A discomforting thought. :P

Yup. Had it in "discover" on account of not following anyone much at that point.

I don't play many video games, but thankfully, I saw that consequence coming a mile away and steered to avoid. :P

It is quiet. Even quieter again once you get the algorithm to realize you're not interested in anime-pr0n weirdos.
