The state of AAA gaming right now.

i wonder how comfortable this is

It really feels like i just discovered fire for the first time
comment in response to post
It seems like theres no real downsides either

But at this point they dont have enough TIME OR RESOURCES to make the core game before doing the gimmicks lol thats what s/v felt like. I dont have many more thoughts i just wanted to have an unorganized ramble about what an enigma of a game design tornado pokemon is, as a franchise
comment in response to post
Id say its impressive the franchise hasnt crashed and burned hard yet, thats so many insane design restrictions to work around in every single aspect lol, every small choice will just fuck you over who knows how many years from now. Earlier i think they used new one-off gimmicks to get around it
comment in response to post
Like am i the only one who realizes how unsustainable it is for pokemon to keep adding hundreds of new designs every generation while also constantly changing art style and gameplay mechanics with all the weight of its past, being a super mechanically complex rpg?
comment in response to post
Also i dont think gamefreak seem to do alot of future-proofing lol. Like "lets make pokemon open world" doesnt sound easy already and then oh yeah lets also just put more detailed textures and geometry on every pokemon lol its clear as day why it was rushed when you see that baffling decision making
comment in response to post
I really think the thing holding pokemon mainline games back is that theyre simply too big; they were doomed from the start (especially after the 3d transition) and keep getting bigger.

Nice, it genuinely helps to remember how many ppl i look up to are autistic when im struggling
comment in response to post
Are you diagnosed with autism yet?

I guess i can take some time to dive into lewd stuff until then

and also things like deferred rendering. not necessary in 90% of them either
comment in response to post
I can do 2D and 3D! though the best I can really show for it is this somewhat old 3D stuff done for an unfinished hobbyist FNAF project from a while ago lol I gotta make an actual reel eventually, but hopefully I can be given a chance to make more with y'all
comment in response to post
Haha im fine with doing every single task on the art/creative side of things.. solo gamedev is the dream for me (and partially the reality) but i cant swim through the business side for the life of me, hopefully i can eventually end up finding someone to take all that weight off
comment in response to post
It sucks to know i have to be incredibly consistent with posting to get any chance at ever actually doing this as a job. We cant ever just be artists anymore, we have to be businessmen too.
comment in response to post
game artists dont deserve this hell.

i suppose i should clarify this is not a standalone game, but a mod for bonelab by stresslevelzero. You'll be able to find it in an update of mod.io/g/bonelab/m/... HOPEFULLY BEFORE THE YEAR ENDS

if 99% of implementations are half baked, is it the implementation? or is there just a flaw in the idea of temporally sampling the least temporally stable medium of realtime rendering ever created?
comment in response to post
No dont go to the dark side
comment in response to post
I read this and my first thought was that you wanted ppl to break NDAs about unreleased games lol
comment in response to post
Relatable

I do. My fault for bothering to actually mentally engage in whats clearly you mentally masturbating yourself. Made the mistake of thinking we might've actually ended up having a discussion.

Also Ralsei in the game is a character defined by mystery. You can interpret him as a kid, and you can feel disgust when you see him sexualized, but that doesnt automatically mean everyone else sees him as a kid, or has to see him that way. We wanna have fun with our adult furry twinks in peace. ✌️

Lemme be clear that any depiction of children in a sexual light is bad. Fictional or real. In any art medium. I am not a pedo or attracted to children. Duh. And i am glad i can say all that from a place of confidence and total self reflection rather than insecurity and pain. Have a good day.

I was wasting so much time with my shame that i didnt even realize i couldve actually outgrown it lol, at times i seeked it out so i could just find the creepy comments and tell myself i was better than those people, much like you. Moving on only happened when i stopped doing that and looked within.

Maybe your statement couldve offended me when i was a (way too young) child struggling with my own consumption of a certain kind of hentai at that age, something brought upon me by groomers. After having self realization of how bad it was and why, i never let myself live it down through my teens
comment in response to post
I thought i blocked you but whatever, that mightve been on twitter. And it really shows alot that you seeked out this post multiple times on different platforms to make this kind of comment. Maybe you should think about why you felt inclined to do this, on a deeper level. Secure ppl dont do this.

The company recently has the entire executive suite fired so hopefully no more bullshit happens there!!! Gonna expect the worst, hope for the best tho.

Having a dedicated allegiance to any sort of tool isnt helpful, i have more of an allegiance to the workflow and community that unity has. Ive also done some godot work and i love it too, and will maybe switch over when its more mature. It isnt really there with vr support yet, though.
comment in response to post
I regularly enjoy games made in unity more than unreal. I enjoy using unity to make my videogames. Both are great tools and can be used to make great games, but again, theyre tools made for different kinds of devs that fundamentally work differently.
comment in response to post
Unity is a good engine for making videogames. 🤷‍♂️ Unreal is too, but for other kinds of developers that dont often have the same preferences or goals as me. I dont like unreal engine for developing my videogames. Unreal games are more often unoptimized than games developed with other engines.
comment in response to post
also its just hard to learn lol. stuff like unity and godot that focus hard on components are more intuitive and lend themselves better to the types of games i love (vr, physics, imsim, etc.)
comment in response to post
as a developer i am a certified unreal hater but only because of its bad optimization and the way it pushes bad standards for graphics (temporal sampling, upscaling, frame gen, realtime everything, etc.) to get around incredibly expensive rendering techniques for diminishing returns
