In his review was that he was an uppity negro. The “grow up” scene definitely refers to him thinking/dreaming of being perceived as a human not a BLACK man.

This is a bigger blow than the obvious racism of the firing. The Joint Chiefs are the single remaining threat to his coup, so if he installs a loyalist at their head, it's a huge obstacle to any attempt to organize the military in defense of the Constitution.
