So I’m wondering about this incident jazz icon Dave Brubeck described. Is it now forbidden DEI? “Brubeck recalled an incident in his childhood. His father asked one of his African-American workers to take off his shirt; the man had been branded on his chest like a farm animal.”

If the legitimate press just permanently stopped attending these events and were replaced by propaganda outlets, that would be both optically clarifying and improve actual journalism.

Probably just a coincidence that the White House is singling out all these Black lawmakers as "violent" and "unhinged"

thinking about all of my family members who still serve and once served, including my grandpops during ww1 and korea and then came home to arkansas where he had no rights that weren't up to the discretion of whatever white person he happened to cross paths with.

JD Vance - If you believe any of the multiple federal courts that have ruled against you so far are exceeding their statutory or Constitutional authority, your recourse is to appeal. You don’t get to rage-quit the Republic just because you are losing. That’s tyranny.

Remember that before NYT v Sullivan was decided, the Times had been so chilled by large verdicts after libel suits from Alabama state officials (before local white juries) that they pulled all their reporters from the state at the height of the civil rights movement.

The policy lead for CDC's H5N1 response has abruptly resigned. Sources tell me CDC's response to the bird flu pandemic has been severely hobbled by the chaos of the past two weeks.

Arguably the biggest national security breach in U.S. history. Private employees downloading personnel data on every federal employee and tax and social security data on every American onto private unsecured servers. Needless to say, completely illegal and subject to major prison sentences.

Why is it that of all our electeds, only AOC seems to understand how to talk about Trump and Musk right now?

Assuming we make it through the next couple of decades, this will be an incredible image for future historians/students of the Trump era

Look, if having an Olive Garden Chair of Roman History is what it takes to reverse the trend whereby every department outside of the Ivies is being ground to dust and the job prospects of anyone who didn't get their degree from Harvard are a wasteland, it's still better than the present situation.

Now this, this is looting. Ain’t nobody gonna be arrested for it either.

This denial of identity is precisely the same sort of propaganda the Nazis used and Putin is currently using against Ukraine. It's an old, evil playbook. Douthat was always a dimwit right-wing propagandist, but he should be understood in full context as an outright Nazi.

Is it dumber to think that these issues haven’t been debated or to think that the only barrier to resolving dispute is “debate”? I’m torn.

NEW: A study by Yale University and other institutions has found that the Gaza war death toll is likely 41% HIGHER than Palestinian health officials reported. It also found that over 59% of those killed were women, children and people over the age of 65. www.reuters.com/world/middle...

Trumpist will argue as he attempts to strip birthright citizenship protections "on day 1" that when the birthright citizenship clause of the 14th Am was ratified in 1868, because there were no "illegal aliens" at the time since migration was unregulated. That rationale is incorrect + ahistorical. 1/

I’m seeing two different and opposing fact checks, one of which claims the LAFD didn’t have budget cuts but that this is misinformation by “far left” activists, and the other of which says that there was a budget cut, even after contract negotiations.

New Study: although Matt Walsh once claimed that the number was "millions," fewer than 1,000 U.S. adolescents were treated for gender dysphoria with puberty blockers, and none under 12 received hormone therapy.

Something I'd like an expert in original Gilded Age to write: Overall, are the plutocrats of this era—Musk, Bezos, Zuckerberg, Thiel etc—greedier, ethically weaker, and more globally destructive than their earlier counterparts? Or not quite as bad? A toss-up? Look forward to reading the answer.
