I never understood that argument, Mitchell's a slob, but he's literally the most uncorruptable and "professional" cop in the film.

What I don't get is, men ARE being told that they're bad and always have been, be right wingers grifting over fears of masculinity.

Well exactly, it's not like it's a good thing to have a gestapo in the first place.
In WW2 it was good in the sense that they couldn't break the resistance movement which helped topple the Nazis.

There's countless papers on how the Gestapo thankfully never ended up being that effective since the majority of the "denunciations" they received were just people weaponising grievances against each other. Banality of Evil goes both ways.

The whole point of DEI and 'wokeness' is that society isn't a meritocracy, that political establishment promotes cultural and ethnic hegemony over ability the first chance it gets.
