Baked some bread. Now I will spend the day trying not to eat the entire loaf by myself. #baking #bread

Heard a lovely concert by the Portland Baroque Orchestra tonight, and the pre-concert lecture touched on several very interesting ideas that set my mind in pleasing motion. An excellent evening.

Inspired by antique portrait miniatures, here is my watercolor portrait of the lovely Louise Pascal in 18th century costume. ~1.5 x 2 in. (~3.75 x 5 cm) Watercolor paints handmade from Oregon rocks. #watercolor #portrait #tinyart #portraitminiature #handmadewatercolors

to me, the *in advance* part of the "don't obey in advance" slogan is so revealing. is there supposedly, to those using that expression, a right time to obey?

Playing with 18th-century-inspired repeating patterns and some new watercolors from The Art of Soil. #watercolor #earthpigments

I had the great pleasure of giving a guest lecture for the Archaeological Method and Theory class at PSU yesterday. I had a fantastic time talking about experimental archaeology and ceramics research. Thank you, Dr. Nims, for the invitation!

Casually attempting the improbable. I went back to the thrift store (3 months later) and found another skein of... Maybe?... the same wool? What do you think? Will it be a match? #knitsky #skyKAL #knitting

A tiny watercolor take on Rachel Ruysch's Flowers in a Vase from the mid-1680s. 1.5 inches (~4 cm) dia. Painted with my handmade watercolors. #tinyart #watercolor #masterstudy #RachelRuysch

Gently, deliciously sore from yesterday's ballet class. I am so glad to be dancing again.

Cook, anticipate, enjoy. Happy new year!

Chop, roll, fill, fold, pinch

I took a walk this frosty morning and picked a few early violets. They are now releasing their scent in the afternoon sun. This is one of the good things in life.

Very nicely put by @cjfrieman.bsky.social and co-writers. Article is open access (link in the thread below)

On a beautiful day in December, I lost HARD in a game of yarn chicken. (I mean utter, abject defeat.) I will revamp and revisit this project for the #skyKAL . Wish me luck! #skyknitting #knitting #trytryagain

Lets do it! A Knitalong to get the community going here on @bsky.app! Start something new (or pick up an old project) using blue yarn, any shade and use the #SkyKAL hashtag to post progress or finished projects. We will let it roll until the end of February. To keep things simple. See comments…

It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood

My first madder dye results. Initially, I got a clear coral pink, but on the fly, I decided to sadden the color a bit with some iron and I reheated the dye bath to shift the color toward brown. I like the resulting earthier tone. #naturaldye #madder #fiberarts #learningbydoing

Scoured and mordanted wool and cotton yarns ready for my first madder root dye bath.

My first handmade watercolors of the new year: Vermont grey, Arizona brown and purple, Lapis lazuli blue, and Oregon greens, yellow-brown, and red. I like this set as a winter palette. Now I just need time to paint...
