Steering is a working class Tory who was smart enough to realise he'd have more success with a red tie than a blue one.

The Lib Dems proposed it, we in the SNP Group amended it and supported it, Labour voted for it, the Tories voted against it.

The council's handle will also soon be updated so it's no longer a generic Bsky one but a verified @southlanarkshire.gov.uk
This will aid the public in recognising the council account as a reputable source of information.

Does the yellow rosette in my pfp not give you a clue that I do push for independence? There are still some problems we can solve before indy.

Still unresolved under the last Tory UK Govt was the last I heard. No idea if it's still supported by new Labour UK Govt.
The electricity-gas price ratio isn't the only problem. We're also charged more in Scotland for transition fees for no good reason - despite being the ones generating the power

The only people I see taking their kids to work these days are takeaway delivery drivers.
I spent an entire summer as a teenager with my dad on a building site one year. Not quite working but also not allowed to sit idle.

Unfortunately I've not seen any of my colleagues bringing in their kids (or grandkids as the demographics would make more likely)

An oversimplification obvs but it's basically what's happened here in Lanarkshire a number of times.
You're correct that a better way to do it would be co-option. But I worry about the process for choosing the replacements. Maybe a pre-defined list at the time of the council elections?

Even at 100% turnout, STV in single member by-elecs would still distort democracy.
A 4 member ward that votes 50 Lab, 25% SNP, 25% Tory would get 2 Lab, 1 SNP, 1 Tory.
SNP Cllr dies. Same vote share at by-elec. 3 Lab, 1 Tory.
Tory resigns. Same votes. 4 Lab.

Idk, I can see the argument against it. Imagine being the Chair of Education and also a janitor in a school. You better believe janitorial services would be the safest budget line item - even if it was 3x overstaffed.

I was similar at a St Andrew's Day do last night. But there are a number of people in my family staunchly against.

I think they're trying to describe that moment of resistance then release when you bite into one, just before/as it explodes. It's like a crunch but not quite. Don't know what the right word is.

66% of the public support, is the figure I've heard. 55% of MPs voted for it to go to 3rd stage. That's not *too* out of touch with wider opinion.

Hey, you can disagree with his politics all you like (and I do), but let's be better than making crass puns based on someone's non-English name.
