Is there a more paint by numbers sub-genre that music biopics? Do studios just have a Mad Lib script out there they use that just changes the names and places but keeps the basic story intact?

Really excited to see these followup efforts from Zach Cregger and the Philippou brothers. Reminds me of the time post-GET OUT, THE WITCH, and HEREDITARY where we were waiting to see what sort oh fresh horror insanity Peele, Eggers, and Aster were going to unleash.

financial advice in a weird time: -- develop a plan -- find friends who support you -- preferably 10 of them -- steal $160 million from the Bellagio, the Mirage, and the MGM Grand -- yes those are Terry Benedict's casinos -- get your wife back -- one of the friends should be Don Cheadle btw simple

Not that there is ever a good time for these idiotic tariffs, but they come at an especially damaging time for the independent film world, and really the film industry at large.

Everyone wants there to be a grand scheme behind all of this but the terrible truth is that extremely stupid people are in charge and they have a fanatical devotion to wrong, childlike concepts of society and economics cooked up by right wing radio hosts in order to sell tainted dietary supplements

I’ve always liked Booker, and I respect what he did here, but ultimately these are just words in a time when words are far from enough. I still see a Democratic party of inaction and inactivity. But at least Storm Thurman can be forgotten from history now. Small victories.

Considered doing a BACK TO SCHOOL Criterion Collection announcement April Fools joke, but got bored and it passed. Also, it is high time BACK TO SCHOOL be added to the Criterion Collection next to other classic films, where it belongs.

Wait, so is this slate of Beatles movies real or an April Fools Joke? Are we finally going to get the Ringo biopic no one wants or asked for?

I think history will be very kind to BABYLON and JOKER: FOLLIE A DEUX. We often hear about films we consider classics today being misunderstood at the time of their releases. I feel like these will be two of them.

My favorite action movie sub-genre is Jason Statham is a former killing machine now trying to make an honest living as a *insert occupation here*, who is forced to kill everyone when his nice boss' *insert family member here* is captured by *insert kind of bad guys here*.

Had a great time chatting with filmmaker, podcaster, and overall good human Steven Hugh Nelson, who's only character flaw is that he'd never seen the Coen Brother's 1996 classic FARGO...until now. We had a great conversation about the film. Give it a listen, or else you're getting the wood-chipper.

What perfect albums came out when you were 16?

20 minutes into MOANA 2 and I’m worried they may have to eat that cute pig while at sea.

This seems unsustainable. It sure feels like there's a day of reckoning coming soon for streaming. I love streaming as much as the next lazy guy, but it took Netflix taking over the entire world to finally become profitable and every other streamer seems to be hemorrhaging money.

What’s your favorite sports movie? BACK TO SCHOOL

Never underestimate the Democratic Party’s inability to rise to any occasion.

Evergreen.

I’m watching FARGO (the movie) and I’m struck by what an absolute masterpiece it is. And also that you couldn’t pay me to live up north again.

I don't want to brag, but I wasn't buying Teslas before it was cool.

You know how you sit around with your friends and talk about how they don't make great comedies anymore? Well, RATS! slipped through the cracks. This one is made by a bunch of very cool, incredibly talented folks. It's out today on VOD, you should search this one out, you won't be disappointed.

CAN NOT WAIT !

NEON now has two Best Picture - Oscar winning films in the last 5 years (ANORA & PARASITE). And later this year they will release SHELBY OAKS, for us. That's a fun couple sentences to type out.

Very psyched for Anora’s big wins & as writer-director-editor Sean Baker said: Long live independent film!

I felt like FLOW was going to win but I didn’t trust my gut and pick it. Perfect Oscar pool ruined.

Such heartbreaking news. RIP, legend.

Legit spent pretty much the whole runtime of THE MONKEY trying to figure out where I knew Sarah Levy from, only to have an immediate "duh" moment when I saw her name in the credits. Also, to the likely surprise of no one, this movie was so my jam.

Somehow I got logged out of Twitter and I can't for the life of me remember my password. This seems like a sign.

On this brand spanking new episode of LATE TO THE PARTY, we figure out why in the world filmmaker, author, film critic, and co-host of @nofspodcast.bsky.social, @kimmikillzombie.bsky.social has lived in the world this long without ever seeing Roland Emmerich's 1996 mega-blockbuster INDEPENDENCE DAY.

Barely a month into the new year and we have already had 3 non-IP, solidly budgeted, original studio horror bangers in HEART EYES, COMPANION, and THE GORGE. That's been a welcome change of pace.
