State Voting Rights Acts give voters tools to challenge unfair election systems in court and can even prohibit discriminatory voting practices from being implemented in the first place. In doing so, states can lead the way toward a more inclusive and accountable government.

The FEC allowed an illegal loophole exploited by wealthy special interests to secretly influence our vote and our government. The court now must step in to uphold the law and defend voters’ right to know who is spending big money to sway our vote.

Those in top positions of power should be chosen for their experience and ability, not just for their loyalty to a particular party or president. During the hearing, the Senate has a duty to ask Harmeet Dhillon questions about these significant concerns.

If confirmed as head of the Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division, Dhillon would be one of the primary authorities in charge of enforcing federal voting laws. However, she has been involved in numerous lawsuits seeking to restrict the freedom to vote across the country.

By dropping the federal criminal case against Mayor Adams, the Department of Justice has abandoned its duty to pursue justice and accountability. The FEC is in a unique position to step up and fulfill its responsibility to safeguard our elections from foreign influence.
